Winemaking Details
Varietal: Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)
Style: Red
Region: Wonegau, Rheinhessen, Germany
Viticulture: Organic. Biodynamic. Handpicked grapes. Farmed on clay, limestone, and sandstone soil.
Winemaking: Fermented spontaneously on the mash for 6 weeks. After 2 weeks of maceration, it matured for 9 months in a double barrel on the full yeast. Bottled without added sulfur and filtration.
About the Winemaker
Bianka and Daniel Schmitt are not just winemakers but pioneers in the new wave of German wines. The young, passionate couple, who helm a two-century-old estate in Rheinhessen, are dedicated to producing grand wines that are as natural as possible. They manage 16 hectares of Demeter-certified biodynamic vineyards from which they craft wines full of life and freshness. Their 'Natur' range is a testament to their commitment to low-intervention winemaking, with zero added sulfur, and all their wines are unfiltered, unfined, and reflect their personality and creativity. Their approach to winemaking, learned from renowned Alsace vigneron Patrick Meyer, demonstrates their dedication to harmony with nature and offers a remarkable range of flavors, from light to complex and serious, even including some exciting ciders for a playful twist.
