The Allied Telesis GS920 Series delivers DIP Smart Gigabit switching designed for the desktop and small networks. This 8-port 10/100/1000T POE+ unmanaged switch brings reliable Gigabit Ethernet, Power over Ethernet Plus, and a compact, noise-free footprint to spaces where simplicity matters. Built with a front-panel of DIP switches, it enables quick PC-free configuration of commonly used features, so you can tailor port behavior—such as speed/duplex, PoE enablement, and LED indicators—without specialized software. Ideal for small offices, retail kiosks, classrooms, and home workspaces, it combines plug-and-play ease with practical power management in a single, space-saving device. The internal power supply keeps cables tidy and eliminates the need for external bricks, making the GS920 a neat, low-profile addition to a busy work environment. Quiet operation, dependable performance, and a straightforward setup process make this switch a dependable backbone for small networks that require reliable PoE power for IP cameras, VoIP phones, wireless access points, and other PoE-enabled devices.

  • Power: Internal power supply (no external brick) for a neat, desk-friendly setup.
  • Performance: Non-blocking switching architecture that delivers solid Gigabit performance for small networks and workgroups.
  • Management: Unmanaged device with front-panel DIP-switch configuration and LED indicators for quick status checks without software.

How to install Allied Telesis 8-port 10/100/1000T POE+ Unmanaged Switch with Internal PSU

  • Prepare the workspace: choose a stable, ventilated surface or a suitable mounting location. Ensure there is at least some airflow and that cables won’t be pinched or stressed.
  • Connect the power: plug the switch’s internal power supply into a grounded AC outlet. The device will power up silently, thanks to its fanless design.
  • Uplink and device connections: use high-quality Ethernet cables to connect your router or uplink switch to any of the 8 ports. Connect PoE devices (IP cameras, phones, APs) to PoE-enabled ports as needed.
  • Configure with DIP switches (if desired): if you need quick, PC-free adjustments, use the front-panel DIP switches to set port speed/duplex or to enable/disable PoE on specific ports as supported by the model.
  • Verify status and function: observe the LED indicators for link, activity, and PoE status. If devices are connected correctly, they will power on and negotiate speeds automatically without any software configuration.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: Is this an unmanaged switch?
A: Yes. It is designed for simple, plug-and-play deployment with no software-based management. You configure basic settings via front-panel DIP switches and rely on automatic port negotiation.
  • Q: Does it support PoE+ on all ports?
A: The model is PoE+ capable on the designated PoE ports. This allows powering compatible devices such as IP cameras, VoIP phones, and wireless access points directly through the switch.
  • Q: Can I configure port speeds or duplex settings through software?
A: In an unmanaged switch, port speed and duplex are typically auto-negotiated. Front-panel DIP switches may offer limited PC-free configuration on some SKUs, but there is no full software management interface.
  • Q: Does it support VLANs or traffic segmentation?
A: Unmanaged switches do not support virtual LAN (VLAN) configurations. All ports share the same broadcast domain unless you introduce a managed device elsewhere in the network.
  • Q: What should I consider when planning PoE power budget?
A: PoE budget is shared across the PoE-enabled ports. For precise wattage limits per port and total budget, refer to the SKU-specific datasheet or vendor specifications for the exact model in your region.
  • Q: What is the typical use case for the GS920 Series?
A: The GS920 Series is well-suited for small offices, retail environments, classrooms, and home offices where a simple, reliable, low-noise Gigabit switch with PoE+ is desired to power essential devices without complex network management.

Worth it albeit online claim process need work
I submitted the claim online twice and each time the claim was denied due to missing documents, which I included. Calling the customer service center was helpful. Shout out to UPS, who picked up the returned item and provided a receipt. Still recommend getting protection, might be an exercise of patience but still worth it.

Absolutely buy this insurance for any product you care about!
I usually don't buy the protection plan for appliances, but the combination of previous experiences with milk frothers that inexplicably and quickly failed taught me to do so this time with my Maestri House milk frother, bought for $70. I'm so glad I did! It shorted out at 22 months, and the company refused to help. I filed my claim with Asurion, got a return label immediately, sent it back that day, and was notified within a couple of days that the total cost of the frother was now ready and waiting for me in my Amazon account. It was so easy, so seamless, and so quick! I researched new (non-Maestri House) frothers, and bought a highly-praised one for the same price--with another 3-year plan from Asurion. So well worth a few more dollars to protect an appliance that I can't start my day without!

First time claim with Asurion, definitely SHADY
This whole thing is really shady. I just called to file a claim for a juicer that I purchased at the same time for coverage. The guy asked for my name, address, than wanted my claim number.... but I was calling to file a claim. I told him I had an order number, so he said Yea give me that. "Now I need your 16 digit credit card number. Thats when I STOPPED. I asked him how does this process work. He said I needed to give him my credit card number first. I repeated ... "can you just tell me how this is going to process so I understand". He then said, "thank you have a blessed day" and hung up. Not odd disconnected, he just hung up. I don't think I'll be buying the Asurion protection anymore. I'll try amazon direct and give an update if I have one. March 12, 2026
