Real Bayberry Candles are hand crafted & dipped from the wax of Bayberry Berries.

Bayberry Wax is a mildly scented aromatic green vegetable wax that is highly sought after for the traditional purpose of burning during Yule/Christmas Eve &/or New Year's Eve. It's removed from the surface of the fruit of the bayberry (wax-myrtle) shrub (ex. Myrica cerifera) by boiling the fruits in water & skimming the wax from the surface of the water. A painstaking & delicate procedure requiring skill & patience. Bayberry Wax is made up primarily of esters of lauric, myristic, & palmitic acid. It takes 15lbs of berries to create 1lb of Bayberry Wax!

Each carefully wrapped boxed set comes with two 8" tapers connected by a single wick. A perfect gift to bring happiness, blessings, & luck into your life &/or the life of a loved one for the coming year! A unique tradition that goes back to the 17th century! Each box includes suggested instructions.

SUGGESTED INSTRUCTIONS:

Trim a single Bayberry Candle wick to about 3/8ths of an inch. Burn one Bayberry Candle on Yule/Christmas Eve & one on New Year's Eve to completion, allowing the candle to burn itself safely out AFTER Midnight. Traditionally you should light your candle when you can see the first star in the night sky. It's considered bad luck to blow out your Bayberry Candles with your breath.

Before lighting the candle you say the following poem:
