Frogs Currently AVAILABLE!

Medium-sized, boldly patterned, and captivatingly active—Leopard Frogs bring both natural beauty and dynamic energy into your amphibian setup. Known for their striking leopard-like spots and remarkable agility, these frogs are native to the eastern United States, from Kansas eastward through New York and down into Florida.

Appearance:
Typically measuring around 2 to 3 inches at full growth, Leopard Frogs showcase a sleek body marked by olive or tan coloring dotted with bold dark spots. Their long legs and streamlined form highlight their flair for powerful, graceful leaps.

Habitat:
In cooler regions, these frogs prefer crisp, clear streams and ponds, whereas in warmer southern areas they’re just as at home in murky swamps, floodplains, and even twilight zones within caves or abandoned mines.

Behavior:
Leopard Frogs are both terrestrial and aquatic, often seen resting on flat rocks near water before springing into action for their next hop or hunt. They tend to be most active during dawn and dusk, showcasing impressive leaping ability and an alert, curious nature.

Diet:
As adults, Leopard Frogs are carnivorous and favor a menu of live prey—including crickets, worms, and other small invertebrates. In captivity, a varied insect diet keeps them healthy and encourages their natural foraging instincts.

Lifespan:
When housed in optimal conditions, Leopard Frogs can live several years—rewarding caregivers with extended opportunities to watch their lively antics and graceful hops.

Care Tips:

  • Enclosure Setup: Provide a terrarium or tank that combines both water and land zones. Horizontal space is especially important—these frogs love to hop! Include a gentle slope using smooth rocks or logs to bridge the two zones.

  • Environmental Conditions: Daytime temps around 70–75 °F with a night drop near 60 °F help mimic their natural weather patterns. Humidity should range from 50–70%, with optional basking spots raised to around 80 °F using a low‑wattage bulb.

  • Maintenance: Regular partial water changes (20–30% every few days), a soft substrate, and vegetation—live or artificial—support healthy skin, hydration, and enrichment.

  • Handling: These frogs are sensitive to handling due to their permeable skin. Minimize contact, and if necessary, use clean, wet hands or gloves to reduce stress and prevent injury.

  • Diet & Nutrition: Feed juveniles daily and adults 3–4 times a week. Rotate between crickets, earthworms, mealworms, and, when appropriate, feeder fish. Always dust prey with calcium and vitamin D₃, especially during growth phases.

  • Security: Leopard Frogs are excellent jumpers and escape artists—keep lids secure and include hiding spots to reduce stress and encourage natural behavior.

Why Leopard Frogs Stand Out:

  • Their bold spots and smooth, streamlined bodies are visually striking and endlessly active.

  • They thrive in setups that blend land and water, making them excellent for aquaponic or paludarium systems.

  • They’re engaging to watch—whether stalking prey, leaping across enclosures, or settling on a sun-warmed perch.
