Description

RockJumper (Discontinued!)Story If you are familiar with knives featuring a Back Lock, they typically have an unsharpened part of the blade called the "ricasso". Typically, these function as a place for you to safely close the knife with one hand, since you can use your index finger to catch the ricasso. Sometimes you can also use the ricasso to choke up and get closer to the edge but it can also sometimes snag on things while cutting. Many users also prefer having no ricasso

Story

If you are familiar with knives featuring a Back Lock, they typically have an unsharpened part of the blade called the "ricasso". Typically, these function as a place for you to safely close the knife with one hand, since you can use your index finger to catch the ricasso. Sometimes you can also use the ricasso to choke up and get closer to the edge but it can also sometimes snag on things while cutting. Many users also prefer having no ricasso or choil at all to avoid snags and for ergonomic benefits. Thus, there were little to no conventional backlocks on the market that had no ricasso AND were safe to close one-handed.

For example, the Centofante 3 (originally intended to be a compression lock as the Vesuvius model) has no ricasso, so if you use your backlock muscle memory like I do, then you will need to get a band aid.

However, with the "Handle Forward" design on the Rockjumper and Leafjumper models, there's a "hidden ricasso" that gives you the best of both worlds. It's not often you see innovation on backlocks, which have been around for at least 60 years!

The only tradeoff is that when the knife is closed, the handle is a bit longer than it otherwise would have to be, but this is not a big deal in my experience.

The Rockjumper is one of my favorite Spydercos!! It feels great to use and I think it's very underrated.

Spyderco's Description:

Designed to fit the needs of outdoor enthusiasts and climbers, the RockJumper™ is a lightweight, mid-sized, folding knife that’s born to perform. Its broad VG-10 stainless steel blade has a full-flat grind for optimal edge geometry and a full-length, perfectly straight cutting edge.

Designed for unfailing reliability under pressure, its Wharncliffe profile offers everything from extreme cutting power to scalpel-like precision. The knife’s hand-filling handle is constructed with skeletonized stainless steel liners, fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) scales, and a stout back lock mechanism with a strong self-close function.

Its Bi-Directional Texture™ pattern ensures a secure, non-slip grip, while a four-position hourglass clip and oversized lanyard hole offer a full range of carry positions. Together with the knife’s other symmetrical features, they make every aspect of the RockJumper’s carry and operation completely ambidextrous.

Fit perfectly, but questionably thin.
Style: CA11053A
This was an exact fit for my 2017 Kia Forte S. My only convern is that it is half the width of the stock filters. Hopefully the different material will make the difference over time. Didn't notice a loss or gain of torque or acceleration after swapping for my old dirty filter.

Increased MPG!
Style: 33-3131
I don't know if it increases power, but it for sure has an increase of 1-2 MPG. About the same MPG increase as a K&N, but half the price.

Time will tell

As another reviewer pointed out, the OEM paper filter is almost 3 times thicker than this one. All things equal, thicker would mean for filtering surface area. So with less filter media surface area, the filter would clog up quicker. However, since this is washable, maybe that's a moot point. I also noticed on my Hyundai Tucson, the rim of this filter must be slighter thicker because I had a tougher time clipping the filter box closed with this one installed. I am keeping my OEM for now, just in case.
