Meet the D-Link DXS-1210-28S Ethernet Switch – a high-performance, 10G smart managed switch designed to deliver fast, reliable connectivity for modern networks. This 28-port switch is purpose-built for small to mid-sized businesses, data centers, and edge deployments where scalable bandwidth, efficient management, and robust security are essential. The DXS-1210-28S brings enterprise-grade features into a compact form factor, enabling you to consolidate servers, storage, and user devices with confidence. Whether you’re supporting virtualization workloads, high-speed backups, or heavy network traffic from multiple users, this switch is engineered to handle demanding environments with ease while simplifying day-to-day administration through intuitive management interfaces.

  • Ultra-fast 10G performance: Designed to accelerate data-intensive applications, virtualized environments, and storage traffic, the DXS-1210-28S delivers ample bandwidth to minimize bottlenecks between servers, storage arrays, and critical endpoints. With 10G capabilities, you gain headroom for growing workloads and seamless multi-VM environments without compromising latency.
  • Flexible port and uplink options: The 28-port design is built to support scalable deployment topologies, offering versatile uplinks to connect aggregation switches, servers, and storage networks. This flexibility makes it ideal for data centers, campus cores, and edge networks where future expansion is a priority.
  • Smart, secure management: Manageability is at the core of the DXS-1210-28S with a feature-rich web-based GUI, CLI access, and SNMP for centralized monitoring. Create VLANs, implement quality of service (QoS) profiles, control traffic with access control lists, and enforce security policies that protect your network perimeter and sensitive data.
  • Resilient network features: The switch supports essential Layer 2 capabilities such as link aggregation (LACP), Spanning Tree Protocol variants, and robust storm control to prevent broadcast storms from impacting performance. These features help ensure stable network operation under heavy loads and during topology changes.
  • Energy efficiency and reliability: Built to balance performance with power-conscious design, the DXS-1210-28S delivers efficient operation and reliable performance even in workhorse environments. Its thermal management and low-noise operation keep deployments practical in office racks and quiet data rooms.

how to install DXS-1210-28S

Step 1: Unpack the switch and verify that all included accessories are present, including the mounting hardware, power cable, and quick-start guide. Place the unit in a suitable rack position or on a stable surface that allows for proper airflow and easy access to ports.

Step 2: Connect the switch to your power source and power it on. Ensure that the operating environment meets the manufacturer’s recommended temperature and ventilation guidelines to maintain optimal performance and longevity.

Step 3: Establish network connectivity by connecting servers, storage devices, or other switches to the appropriate ports. If you plan to use uplinks, connect them to your core or aggregation devices as you design your topology.

Step 4: Access the management interface using the console or web IP address provided by the switch. Create an initial administrative user, configure management VLANs, and apply basic security settings to prevent unauthorized access.

Step 5: Configure Layer 2 features such as VLANs, QoS policies, and port security according to your network policy. Enable link aggregation where required to increase throughput and provide redundancy for critical connections.

Step 6: Validate connectivity across the network by testing end-to-end traffic, monitoring latency, and confirming that all devices are reachable. Save the configuration to ensure settings persist through reboots and apply firmware updates if available from the vendor.

Step 7: Establish ongoing management by enabling monitoring and alerting. Set up SNMP traps, syslog destinations, and performance dashboards to keep track of switch health, port utilization, and error conditions.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the primary use case for the DXS-1210-28S? All Gotchas, Gimmicks, and Grief
My husband broke the item in question, which was a Chemex coffee maker made of nothing but glass. It shattered full of coffee, so like a normal human he cleaned up the dangerous mess and threw it away. I put in a claim, and it said that I had to ship back the product. Believing that the Asurion process was as simple as stated, and reading the agreement that does mention that sometimes they'll require shipment of the item, but that they will review cases and use reasonable judgment, I contacted their chat, explaining that the requirement that I mail them a wet pile of shards of glass soaked in coffee (and a little bit of blood) was unsafe and unreasonable. I don't even know how I could do that in a way that would be safe for the people opening the packaging, or even to take it to the store. The shards of glass might puncture any plastic, and the wetness would soak through, plus there's the biohazard issue. Seems silly for a $47 product replacement to me. I figured any human would understand. First chat associate closed my case without even responding to me. I had to reopen it. The second one told me, "Yes, that is how your warranty works" as an answer to my "Hello, the last chat closed without me talking to anyone." I tried to explain the situation, and was told "If you call the hotline, maybe they'll help you." I call the hotline. The first person tells me tough, I have to mail it. I say it was thrown away. He says "AHA then it's lost! Your warranty doesn't cover lost things!" I say no, it's not lost, it was disposed of properly as shards of glass should be. I finally ask can I speak to someone else or a supervisor. He lies and says yes. I sit on hold for 20 minutes, never any wait time or any sort of indicator of when someone will talk to me. The phone call quality finally gets very horribly staticky, so I hang up and try again. Hallelujah, I get a decent human being who immediately says, "Oh, no, that's not reasonable! That is an unsafe thing to have to mail. I'll send it to the override department who should approve this because it's obvious that's not a normal thing to expect." Today I get an email that says: We can't approve your claim. We reviewed your NO SUPPORTING MANUFACTURER COFFEE MAKER claim. The product in your claim is not covered by your plan. As a result, we're unable to approve your claim. Nothing about the requirement to mail a biohazard, just the item isn't covered even though the item is absolutely covered. While I understand that loss prevention is important, this is a very small potatoes return and it isn't like I made this up. It would be easy to make me happy. I'm sure it has cost them more money to deny it than they would have lost covering the Chemex. I've bought multiple of their product replacement policies before. I never will again. They didn't offer for me to send a picture or anything. They just wasted hours of my time and sent a clearly AI-based answer, rather than treating me like a valuable customer.
