The microphone is constructed from top quality components found in many high-end studio condenser microphones, yet it is built and packaged to withstand the rigors of broadcast and touring.
With the LS-208's powerful off-axis rejection and internally shock mounted condenser element, it is also particularly well suited for recording voices and instruments in highly dynamic environments such as live on-stage, or in a studio live-room when many instruments are being recorded at once.
The LS-208 can handle sound pressure levels of 135dB without the need for internal or external pre-attenuation. This unique feature also allows for ultra-wide dynamic range. Highly unique for microphones of this type is the LS-208's ability to capture the full human audio perception of 120dB of dynamic range. Many microphones are limited to 85dB of dynamic range after compensating for self-noise. The high-dynamic range gives engineers the ability to capture brilliant recordings of highly dynamic instruments in many environments and is especially useful for capturing horns, percussion, and guitar amps. The new mic features independent, multi-stage, high and low-cut filters to help engineers balance recordings at the microphone and aid in successfully capturing a performance while reducing the need for mixing. The 2-stage low-cut (50 and 120Hz) filters reduce low-end rumble and proximity effect in voice applications. The 2-stage high-cut (8 & 10kHz) filters help tame bright instruments and high frequencies. The LS-208 features internally shock mounted condenser elements to help reduce mechanical shock and vibrations. The mic requires 48V phantom power, uses a Cardioid polar pattern, and features a JFET transistor circuit with a transformer-based balanced output.
The Lauten Audio LS-208 microphone comes equipped with a detachable spider shock mount, as well as a hard mount, both with adjustable elbows, and a foam windscreen. The microphone and all its accessories fit into the included hard case, perfect for touring.

Great size, design, and 100% metal grinding mechanism

***PLEASE NOTE: This review is only for the more expensive version here with the all metal grinding mechanism and not the cheaper version that looks the same but has a ceramic grinder that’s also available on this page — hope this helps avoid potential confusion. My advice is to splurge on the metal grinder version.
***UPDATE 3/18/26***
Well, after almost two years of fairly heavy daily use the first flaw has emerged so thought I’d share. Yesterday the silver wrapping on the grinder part came loose making it hard to turn the grinder as it was slipping. I did a quick fix by adding some super glue around the seam at the top of the grinder and that’s done the trick at least for now. I’m leaving my 5-star rating because I remain thrilled with its overall performance and frankly would’ve ordered another one if this fix didn’t work, but so far it appears to be holding. 🤞 So still very happy but just wanted to share in case anyone else experiences this.

So I’ve now had this for over a year, and under pretty heavy daily use I’m happy to report it still works as well as the day I bought it. Great product, and it’s a pleasure to use every day.

So, after almost four months of pretty heavy daily use I just wanted to report back that this grinder continues to work perfectly and shows every sign of lasting for years to come. I especially like the glass jar so I can see when I’m running low on black peppercorns, and even though it’s got a small form factor it holds a lot so I don’t have to refill it frequently despite using it multiple times daily. I’m super happy with this product all around and recommend it highly!!!

Been using this for a few days now and am very happy so far. I’ve used a traditional wood pepper mill my whole life, but now it’s just me so I wanted something smaller and with a glass body so I can easily see when I need to add more peppercorns. I also wanted an all metal grinding mechanism (that this version has for an few dollars more) instead of ceramic, which doesn’t seem to hold up as well, and I definitely wanted no plastic parts involved in the actual grinding either — don’t need any more microplastics in my diet thank you. This one seemed to check all the boxes, and so far it’s been great. Initially it was set to a more fine, powdery grind, but it was super easy to adjust to a more course grind that I prefer and it’s perfect. Overall it seems well built and is very easy to use, and as long as this holds up it’s a definite keeper. I’ll report back if any future mishaps, but as of now I’d recommend this very highly!
