The portrait was originally a personal project between Gary James McQueen and his uncle, taken in 2008. Layered with photo-manipulated images of Tower Bridge, the portrait was used for the invitation to the Alexander McQueen 2009 ‘Natural Dis-Tinction, Un-Natural Selection’ womenswear show. Exhibited in the V&A Museum, London and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the image’s history encapsulates Lee’s legacy as an iconic British designer.
