The dual-sided BTM2 dipslides are good general-purpose dip slides and can be used in a variety of environments.

The most popular use for our BTM2 Nutrient and Malt Extract dipslides are for testing cooling towers and HVAC systems.

These dipslides test for yeast, malt, moulds and total count (aerobic bacteria).

Provided in boxes of 10.

Side one of the dipslide contains Nutrient Agar & TTC which tests for total bacteria, and side two contains Malt Extract which tests for moulds and yeast.

All dips tests require a period of time in a specialist incubator. You can view our dipslide incubator range here. Please see the Datasheet section below for details of the incubation period required for these BTM2 dip tests.

Additional information

Inside each 10-pack dipslide box you will find a helpful leaflet. The leaflet includes:

  • Product care and storage instructions
  • Guidance on interpreting the results
  • A visual guide (comparison chart) to help you interpret the results
  • Instructions on how to safely dispose of your dip test once used

10 x adhesive labels are also included to help you keep track of each sample point (sample/date/time/ref/source)

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place (optimum 8-15 degrees C). Use it before the expiration date on the box. Do not use slides if there is any sign of growth before opening.

Please note a small amount of water may collect in the bottom of the tube, this is condensate from the agar and does not affect the performance of the dipslide agar.

Which dipslides should you use? This is a common question asked when evaluating the most suitable dip slides for your testing purposes. How to use our Dipslides

Using our dip slides is easy! No prior training or experience is required to be able to use the dipslides and read the results effectively. Each dip slide has an easy-grip handle and a flexible paddle for ease of use and for surface testing

Testing Fluids

Remove the dip slide from its tube, and without touching the agar gel, immerse the gel part of the slide in the fluid to be tested for about 10 seconds, or hold the slide under running liquid, or spray so that both sides are covered. Allow excess fluid to drain for a few seconds.
Replace in its tube, seal firmly, label as required and incubate.

Testing Surfaces

Remove the dip slide from its transparent container. Do not touch the culture agar gel. Holding the slide by the tab (and the bottom of the slide if required), press one side of the agar against the surface under test, the ribbed neck above the agar will bend to allow full contact.
Repeat with the second side on an area close to the first site. Put the slide back into the tube, seal firmly, label as required and incubate.

Interpretation

After 48 hrs in the incubator, compare the dipslide to the chart provided in the box, reading the result from the closest matching image.
Fluid results are counted in “colony forming units” (CFU) per millilitre.
Surface results are in CXFU per square centimetre.
Bacteria and yeast are both compared to the top chart. Fungi (furry colonies) are compared to the lower chart in the leaflet.
Very high contamination levels may lead to a complete overgrowth on the slide. If this is the case, comparing the slide to an unused example will show the difference

Disposal

Used slides should be incinerated, autoclaved or soaked in disinfectant for several hours before disposal.

I got these for the toddler, who is living her best life as a princess. She is allowed to wear these for dress up and she absolutely adores them. I apply them to the apples of her cheeks, on the tip of her nose, and on her arms and ankles like fancy bracelets. At this rate, they won't last long, and because they are used for play, I end up pulling them off the rugs and upholstery for days afterward. It's like a game for mom! They are lovely and fun and she absolutely adores them. The only downstar is for the adhesive quality. Now, this might be just me because I received them during a severe winter storm and they stayed in the mailbox for several days of below zero weather, but the sticky backing peels off quite easily from many of them. It's easy enough to fix with the tweezers that are supplied, but you might want to pay attention to that detail. At bath time, I am finding many pieces of the tape no longer attached to a jewel. I don't know if my bunch were damaged because of the cold, but if you're planning to go to the club, I would bring extras. If you're using them for playtime, just beware that you might find them in all kinds of unexpected places. They definitely won't hold up to bath time, so take them off first, to avoid clogging up the plumbing.

Had to dock 2 stars because the tweezers are too flimsy to actually assist with applying the gems, which sucks because that was a huge selling point for me. Additionally, the glue sticks a little too well to the paper. Many gems detached from the adhesive, which made them useless if the objective is to apply the gems to your face. Still had to award a few stars because the ones that did manage to successfully pull from the paper without coming apart, stayed on my face for about 3-4 hours outside in the sweaty heat.
