How to install Lenovo Intel Xeon Platinum (3rd Gen) 8358 Dotriaconta-core (32 Core) 2.60 GHz Processor Upgrade

  • Prepare your workstation: Power down the Lenovo server and unplug all connections. Ground yourself to prevent static discharge and open the chassis according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Verify compatibility: Confirm that your motherboard supports Socket LGA-4189 and that the BIOS/firmware is up to date for Xeon Platinum 8358 compatibility. Review Lenovo’s compatibility lists to ensure proper support for this processor family.
  • Remove existing processor heatsink: Detach the cooling solution carefully and clean any old thermal interface material from the heatsink and motherboard if needed. Prepare fresh thermal paste or a new thermal pad as required by your thermal solution.
  • Install the new processor: Align the 8358 with the LGA-4189 socket and seat it firmly in place, ensuring even contact with the socket pins. Do not apply excessive force. Lock the socket lever according to the motherboard’s instructions.
  • Apply cooling solution: Reattach the heatsink and fan assembly with the correct mounting pressure to maintain optimal thermal contact. Ensure cables are routed for unobstructed airflow.
  • Power up and configure: Power on the server and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup. Enable any relevant enterprise features such as Intel Voltage and thermal monitoring, virtualization extensions, and PCIe settings as needed for your workloads. Save changes and boot into the operating system.
  • Operating system and software: Install or update the server operating system with the latest drivers and firmware to fully leverage the processor’s features. Verify CPU recognition, core counts, and performance metrics using built-in diagnostic tools and monitoring software.
  • Validation and testing: Run standard benchmarks and stability tests to confirm correct installation, thermal behavior, and performance expectations. Monitor temperatures, power draw, and system stability under load to ensure reliability in production workloads.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: Is the Lenovo Intel Xeon Platinum 8358 compatible with my Lenovo server motherboard?
A: This upgrade is designed for systems with the LGA-4189 socket. Compatibility depends on the motherboard’s BIOS/firmware support and Lenovo’s validated subsystem lists. Always verify with Lenovo’s official compatibility resources before purchase.
  • Q: What workloads benefit most from the 32-core Xeon Platinum 8358?
A: Virtualization platforms, large-scale databases, analytics pipelines, HPC simulations, AI inference tasks, and other multi-threaded enterprise workloads see significant gains from the high core count, large cache, and strong memory bandwidth of this processor.
  • Q: Does this processor support ECC memory?
A: Xeon Platinum processors are designed for enterprise environments and typically support ECC memory when paired with a motherboard that enables it. Check your Lenovo motherboard specifications to confirm ECC compatibility and enablement in the BIOS.
  • Q: What is the difference between the base frequency and turbo frequency?
A: The base frequency is 2.60 GHz, which provides steady, power-efficient performance. The turbo frequency can reach up to 3.40 GHz under burst workloads, offering higher single-thread performance when cooling and power budgets permit.
  • Q: What should I consider when upgrading to this processor?
A: Ensure the server’s cooling solution, power delivery, and BIOS support are adequate for a 250 W TDP processor. Confirm socket compatibility (LGA-4189) and validate firmware with Lenovo’s guidance to maintain system stability and performance.

ishiness
Format: Paperback
Williams' poetry requires some bio, and Charles Tomlinson's introduction in this edition has proved helpful. also Wendell Berry has published a handsome critique in "William Carlos Williams of Rutherford" that helps to mitigate some of the ishiness that may result from reading Williams without understanding the man. that beins said, Williams speaks well to the listeners of the finical new millenium with a mind for the migrant-flux consequences of the coming century -stressing the "thing" and the "American idiom" with attention to detail and irrepressible imagination "flung outward and up-disappearing suddenly" (from "Strains" in Al Que Quiere)

Above The River: The Complete Poems of james Wright
Format: Paperback
This volume is fascinating, because it does show the different stages of Wright's development as a poet and a writer (the prose sketches and descriptions of Italy are wonderful). The early poems are extremely capable but there is a sense in which they feel constrained by formal verse conventions, especially rhyme. This becomes evident when he writes in free verse and his voice becomes easier and more vernacular. Some of the poems like "Hook" and "To A Blossoming Pear Tree" are wonderful: 'An old man / Appeared to me once / In the unendurable snow./ He had singe of white beard on his face. / He paused on a strett on Minneapolis / And stroked my face. // Give it to me, he begged / I'll pay you anything. // I flinched. Both terrified, / We slunk away, / Each in his own way dodging / The cruel darts of the cold. " There are some late poems when he becomes almost incoherent, but the centre of the book is a whole series of poems as powerful and honest as this.
