A surprising and lyrical journey-part memoir, part nature book-meditating on the meaning of "flatness" and its literary tradition to find ways to understand ourselves and our trauma in one of nature's most undervalued wonders.Does the concept of "flat" have an undeservedly bad rap? There are centuries' worth of adoration for rolling hills and dramatic, mountainous landscapes. In contrast, flat landscapes are forgettable and seemingly unworthy of poetic or artistic attention.Noreen Masud suffers from complex post-traumatic stress the product of a profoundly disrupted and unstable childhood. It flattens her emotions, blanks out parts of her memory, and colours her world with anxiety. Undertaking a pilgrimage around Britain's flatlands, seeking solace and belonging, she weaves her impressions of the natural world with poetry, folklore and history, and with recollections of her own early life.Masud's British-Pakistani heritage makes her a partial outsider in these both coloniser and colonised, inheritor and dispossessed. Here violence lies beneath the fantasy of pastoral innocence, and histories of harm are interwoven with nature's power to heal. Here, as in her own family history, are many stories that resist the telling. She pursues these paradoxes fearlessly across the flat, haunted spaces she loves, offering a startlingly strange, vivid and intimate account of the land beneath her feet.Masud combines memoir, nature writing, and literary reflection to explore what can be drawn from these powerful places, and to understand her own experience of complex trauma and post-traumatic stress, as well as grief and loss. A Flat Place is a book that drives to the heart of what it means to experience place - bodily and psychologically - and the healing properties of literature and landscape.Shipping Notes

Size: X-Large, Color: Black Pullover
This sweatshirt is a great basic that works for everyone. The fit is comfortable and true to size, but also looks good a little oversized if you prefer a looser style. The material is soft on the inside and warm without being too heavy.
It’s perfect for men, women, and teens — super easy to layer or wear on its own. The quality is better than expected for a generic sweatshirt, and it’s held up really well after multiple washes with no shrinking or fading.
Simple, cozy, and a great everyday sweatshirt for all sizes and genders!

Comfortable Everyday Hoodie
Size: Large, Color: Black Pullover
This hoodie is a great basic to have on hand. The fleece material is soft and comfortable, and it provides just the right amount of warmth for cooler mornings and evenings. The fit was true to size, and it held up well after washing without losing its shape.
My husband likes wearing it for everyday errands, walks, and casual outings. It's comfortable, lightweight enough to layer, and easy to throw on when you need an extra layer.
A solid, affordable hoodie for everyday wear.

solid basic hoodie - but please don't sew the draw string in Fruit of the Loom!!
Size: XX-Large, Color: Black Pullover
I love these hoodies and actually have a few of them in my wardrobe - I would give them a 5-star as they're very comfortable, hold-up well to wear and tear, and they're pretty warm... They don't shrink or bleed dye in the wash, great stuff.
HOWEVER! They recently started sewing the drawstring in, which is really annoying... I wear the XXL size and the hood is still a bit small for my dome, so I typically don't need the drawstring, but now I can't remove it without trying to remove the stitching and damaging the hood or cutting the ends off, leaving most of them inside the hood - meaning you can't replace the drawstring should you want to (which sometimes I do, like if I'm skiing or what not)...
I also work with power tools, which make loose ends like drawstrings outright dangerous, so I really need to be able to remove them easily - I would give these hoodies a 5-star if they stopped sewing the drawstring in

Good value
Size: 10.5, Color: Black/Black
They fit and they stay on my feet (I was worried because these are slip-ons).
