Award-winning author and artist S. D. Nelson (Standing Rock Sioux) captures the spirit of Buffalo Bird Girl by interweaving the actual words and stories of Buffalo Bird Woman with his artwork and archival photographs. Backmatter includes a history of the Hidatsa and a timeline.
Buffalo Bird Girl (ca. 1839-1932) was a member of the Hidatsa, a Native American community that lived in permanent villages along the Missouri River on the Great Plains. Like other girls her age, Buffalo Bird Girl learned the ways of her people through watching and listening, and then by doing.
She helped plant crops in the spring, tended the fields through the summer, and in autumn joined in the harvest. She learned to prepare animal skins, dry meat, and perform other duties.
There was also time for playing games with friends and training her dog. When her family visited the nearby trading post, there were all sorts of fascinating things to see from the white man’s settlements in the East.

Perfect for beside any sink even dorms

I bought this for my son for his dorm room for his sponge for washing dishes and for him to put his dish soap and his hand soap for everything that he could keep it all tidy because he’s actually quite organized and he actually really liked it and it looked very neat. It’s easy to clean. It wasn’t too big everything fit perfectly for the Myers hand soap, and dish soap. The color is neutral almost masculine is gray and black. And there is no issue of it falling because he kept it on a side table away from the sink so that nobody else would use it so it would be just his.
So It was altogether and kept everything organized. He really liked it.

Small caddy that makes a big difference

I don't have counter space to spare, so having a dedicated spot for my sponges, dish brush, and soap right at the sink has been really convenient. Everything is corralled and easy to grab.
The angled design drains directly into the sink, which keeps things from getting gross and waterlogged. There's a separated sponge compartment which I like, and it's big enough to hold a couple of sponges, a long dish brush, and a small bottle of dish soap all at once.
It also just looks way nicer than my previous solution of stuffing everything into a jar. It's sturdy, hasn't gotten rusty or tarnished, and it just feels well made. Sometimes a small organizational upgrade makes your whole kitchen feel better and this is one of those. Also, very reasonably priced! For $11, this is a goodie.
