Enhance your network's reach with the Black Box High-Density Transceiver/Media Converter. This 100-Mbps Layer 1 module is designed to plug into the fully manageable High-Density Media Converter System II, delivering a reliable copper-to-fiber bridge that expands your Ethernet footprint across campus, data centers, and enterprise environments. By converting 100-Mbps copper (100BASE-TX) to 100-Mbps fiber (100BASE-FX) for duplex optical links, this module delivers flexibility, scalability, and sustained performance without forcing a complete network overhaul. It is optimized for modular deployments where space, power, and manageability matter, making it an ideal upgrade path for aging copper infrastructures and for new fiber-based architectures alike. With support for both multimode and single-mode fiber, LC duplex connectivity, and seamless integration with the HDMC System II management capabilities, this transceiver helps you build future-ready networks that are easier to monitor, maintain, and expand.

  • Designed for seamless copper-to-fiber conversion at 100 Mbps (100BASE-TX to 100BASE-FX), enabling extended reach beyond copper Ethernet limits while delivering predictable, low-latency performance suitable for legacy and contemporary applications alike.
  • Modular, hot-swappable Layer 1 transceiver intended for the High-Density Media Converter System II. It plugs into a compatible chassis, enabling a flexible mix of copper and fiber cards within a single enclosure and reducing downtime during upgrade paths.
  • Fiber options include duplex multimode and single-mode transmission via LC duplex connectors. The SKU determines the exact fiber type and reach, giving you the freedom to leverage existing fiber budgets and plan incremental migrations as needs evolve.
  • Road-tested reliability features a rugged design that maintains signal integrity in data-center and campus environments. Diagnostic LEDs provide at-a-glance status for link, activity, and fault conditions, while the HDMC System II management interface supports ongoing monitoring and health checks.
  • Ease of deployment and ongoing management are core benefits: auto-negotiation on the copper side, straightforward fiber alignment, and centralized control through the High-Density Media Converter System II, delivering consistent performance with minimal configuration.

  • Fiber Interface: Duplex LC fiber port for 100BASE-FX transmission (fiber type and reach depend on SKU).
  • Fiber Type Options: Supports both multimode and single-mode fiber, determined by the specific transceiver SKU.
  • Module Context: Layer 1 transceiver designed for direct insertion into the High-Density Media Converter System II; hot-swappable and designed for modular network deployments.

How to Install Black Box High-Density Transceiver/Media Converter

  • Power down or ensure the target HDMC System II chassis is in a maintenance-friendly state, then locate an available slot for the transceiver module.
  • Insert the transceiver into the chassis slot until it seats securely; verify that the module is properly engaged with the backplane connectors.
  • Attach a 100BASE-TX copper cable to the RJ-45 copper port, ensuring proper pairing and a secure connection.
  • Connect duplex fiber to the LC duplex fiber port, selecting the correct fiber type (MMF or SMF) and confirming the fiber polarity and link direction as required by your network design.
  • Power up the chassis and use the HDMC System II management interface to verify link status, monitor port activity, and confirm that the transceiver is recognized. If necessary, adjust auto-negotiation or port settings to align with adjacent devices.

Frequently asked questions

Arrived Battery DOA - But then something unexpected happened.
This was a one star review because the unit arrived with a batter that would not hold charge for more than a minute. I am not changing the stars, because if you are like me, you read the one star reviews cause so many companies pay for fake 4 and 5 star reviews. When I first posted this review I also initiated a return and just planned to move on to another brand. I was surprised when I got a personal email from the Arctek Service Team offering to send me a replacement free of charge. With nothing to lose I figured why not? The new unit arrived and I put a full charge on it and put it to work. I chose this keyboard because it is the closest in layout to the original Microsoft ergo split keyboard, no longer in production, that I have used for years and truly enjoy. I am pleased to report that the battery is working fine and the keyboard performs flawlessly. No skipped strokes or stuck keys, no glitches with the proprietary wireless interface to the laptop (when I am using it on the desk with a large screen). My hat is off to the Arctek service team and management. A company that cares enough about its reputation and customers to go to so much effort to take care of a customer with such a small dollar item sale is a company you can expect to rely on. From now on when I want electronic gear on Amazon, I am going to use the word Arctek in my search.

Incredible
1 year update: I have been using this keyboard daily at work for almost one year and my 5 star review stands. Upon receiving the keyboard I charged it before use, and since then I have not charged it at all and it is still somehow at 75% battery!! I turn it off at night when I’m done. One of the function keys broke off in a way where I can’t reattach it, but I reached out to customer support and they sent me a free replacement keyboard. Great customer service and warranty! Original review: I love this keyboard. I am a grant writer so I write and edit all day. It has really leveled up my typing experience and has made work much more comfortable. It puts my hands in a natural position so my wrists no longer bend at odd angles. I adapted to the split key design in minutes. The keys have an excellent feel and sound to them and the wrist pad feels like a soft cloud. I’ve had no connectivity issues and so far the battery has been stellar. It also has rubber grippers on the bottom so it stays firmly in place on my desk and doesn’t move around like my old keyboard did. I went for this one because I didn’t want to spend $100+ on a keyboard and I’m really impressed with the quality.

OK, but .....
It is an ok keyboard with an annoying flaw. As other reviewers have observed, the placement of the Number Lock key makes it easy to trip that key by error. it is distracting to have to break your train of thought to fix the problem.

Great value for quality design
Super sturdy and sleek. It is exactly what I needed. It is small enough to move around when I move my laptop. I use it on a slide out from my desk so that I can work while I watch TV. It also keeps my laptop cool with airflow on all sides. It couldn't be simpler.

A great laptop stand
At first, I was skeptical of the price, especially when I opened up the box and what I was presented with was nothing but a thick chunk of shaped metal. However, now that I've been using this for a bit of time, I can attest to it's quality: 1. This thing is STURDY. One of my children is a curious (read: nosy) four year old who loves to inspect anything she can get her hands on. No amount of her typing, tugging, pulling or otherwise manipulation of the work laptop upon this stand has budged it in the slightest. Unless you are (an adult) intentionally trying to remove the laptop from the stand, your computer is very stable. 2. It's actually great for hiding wires. It has a hole in the back for tunneling wires towards/away from the computer, and this stand being the hunk of metal that it is, does a nice job obscuring such wires, which gives the stand a nice, clean look on a desk with a little bit of care. For some people, this matters a lot, which gives this stand an edge over the more architecturally sparse stands on Amazon. 3. The space between the "legs" of the stand and the "floor" where your computer rests is a great place to hide your phone while getting work done. I put mine on a charger and hide my phone there, which is really nice for limiting any tendencies to check my phone when I have a lull in my attention span. Since you can't see the phone when it rests there, but you can still hear it, I found myself pleasantly surprised that this stand could enable better productivity from my bad habits. It's a good stand and it's worth the money, especially if you have dual monitors and/or you're trying to improve the ergonomics of your workspace.
