The name retsina comes from the days when the ancient Greeks sealed their clay jars of wine with pine resin, giving the wine over time a unique woody flavour. Today the resin flavour is often added artificially and retsina generally has a bad reputation. This retsina is something else: when I served it to Greek friends in a blind tasting, none of them could believe it was a retsina, and it is one of my best selling wines despite the fact that it’s a retsina. The wood note is so subtle that some people miss it, but it adds a little something extra to this great wine.
