STEINWAY & SONS GRAND PIANO S-155 BLACK ( Renewed)

The Steinway baby grand piano debuted almost a century ago in the 1930s. This impressive instrument was inspired by the dream of allowing the magic of Steinway to be heard in any space, regardless of its size. For those concerned about size, the Model S is the smallest of the Steinway grands. Standing at just 5′ 1″” (155 cm), the Model S is a great choice for smaller spaces and homes.

DIMENSIONS

Length: 5′ 1″ (155 cm)
Width: 57¾” (147 cm)
Net Weight: 540 pounds (252 kg)

BRACES

The Steinway Model S features three solid spruce braces, measuring 1,050 cubic inches in volume (17,202cm3). These reinforcements provide high tensile strength whilst reducing the weight added to the instrument. A seamless foundation is created by fastening the spruce braces to the rim and cross-block with maple dowels, onto which the tonal component is layered. For smaller grands with reduced tension, a treble bell is not a necessity.

SCALE

Overstrung; combination agraffe; front and rear duplex.
Tension: 32,332 lbs. (14,550 kg)

RIBS

The baby grand piano’s ribs are crafted from long-lasting sugar pine to ensure the durability and reinforcement of the down bearing of the strings across the soundboard. The rib ends are fitted by hand.

TUNING PINS

Resistant to rust; nickeled heads; made from choice bluing steel.

STRINGS

Treble: crafted from high-tensile Swedish steel; twelve whole and one-half sizes. Bass: pure copper wound around a Swedish steel core Longest: agraffe/bridge; 45½” (116 cm)

HAMMERS

Top and underfelt made from superior wool which is treated to be insect and moisture repellent. The shape is maintained by compression wiring. The hammer mouldings and shanks are crafted from premium hard rock maple.

DAMPERS

Choice wool is cut horizontally to ensure successful dampening, adhered with durable maple heads.

KEYS

Steinway baby grand piano keys are produced only from carefully selected European spruce. Each key is precisely weighed-off. The white naturals are coated to be resistant to staining and chipping. Black flat and sharp keys are abraded to be slip-proof and ebonised for rich colour. Peak tonal power is assured with each touch by durable Linden wood buttons reinforcing the keys over the balance rail. The longest key measures 19″ (48.3 cm).

KEYBED

The keybed is formed from quarter-sawn spruce planks. Birch planks are cut horizontally and vertically to provide a vented system that allows moisture to escape. Enjoy heavy playing with a crowned and reverse-crowned action frame that ensures a tight fit, preventing ‘slapping’ and allowing for intensified key movement. A sturdy mount for adjustable brass touch-regulating screws is offered by the large maple down ends. Thickness: 1¾” (4.45 cm).

PEDALS

Finished from durable, solid brass. Ideal for soft, sustained and full sostenuto play.

parodies of a classic
Format: Paperback
In Shamela, Fielding gives us the behind-the-scenes true Hollywood version of Pamela's story (and it's tabloid worthy). In Joseph Andrews, Fielding shares the tale of Pamela's brother caught in the same sort of madcap antics she endured.

An Excellent Film
The success of this film is derived from Paul Schrader’s concept for the film and his hiring of his production designer, Eiko Ishioka, a Japanese female artist. The four chapters are presented in a simple setting with ingenious design while telling Mishima’s personal history and development into a Nobel price winning author and martyr for his political beliefs. This blu ray is a new restored 4K digital transfer of the director’s cut. As usual Criterion Collection also included a wealth of commentaries, interviews, a 1985 documentary about Mishima and a booklet. A very best blu ray package if you are interested in the person and subject matters.

Astonishing Movie
This is exactly the kind of movie that would never receive funding today and get within hailing distance of production. This movie was my 'gateway drug' into the dark and fascinating world of Yukio Mishima which is one of those things where, as the saying goes, "If you know, you know." This film is basically a collection of several short films woven together. One is the story of Mishima himself, from childhood up to the morning of his last day. The other shorts are taken from four of his novels, including my personal favorite, 'Runaway Horses'. For the biographical portions of the film, which are mostly in black-and-white, Roy Scheider's narration is excellent as well. All in all, this movie is a beautiful introduction to Yukio Mishima as well as an artistic triumph for Paul Schrader.
