Protect your shift linkage and ensure smooth gear transitions with this EMPI Rear Tunnel Access Cover. Engineered using modern SolidWorks CAD and 3D modeling, this panel is a highly accurate reproduction of the original factory unit. It serves as the primary shield for your shift coupler, keeping road grime, moisture, and debris out of your tunnel while allowing for easy maintenance access.

Constructed from 1mm thick stamped 1018 steel, this cover is slightly dimpled to increase structural rigidity—preventing the "oil-can" flexing or rattling common with thinner, inferior reproductions. Finished in a durable satin black coating, it offers a clean, factory-correct look for any "nothing to hide" restoration.

Key Features:

  • CAD-Engineered Accuracy: Developed via 3D modeling and test-fitted on multiple chassis to ensure a perfect seal and hole alignment.

  • Rigid Construction: Stamped from 1018 steel with a dimpled design for improved strength and vibration resistance.

  • Protective Barrier: Essential for preventing dirt from contaminating your shift coupler bushings and shift rod.

  • Complete Kit: Comes finished in satin black and includes the necessary mounting screw for a 5-minute installation.

  • OE Quality: Direct replacement for original part number 111-701-555B.

Installation Guide: Step-by-Step

Note: This cover is located at the rear of the center tunnel, typically under the rear seat on Beetles.

  1. Access: Pull up the rear seat bottom and locate the access opening at the very end of the center chassis tunnel.

  2. Clean the Surface: Wipe down the mounting flange around the tunnel opening. Ensure there is no old adhesive or debris that could prevent a flush fit.

  3. Inspect the Coupler: While the cover is off, this is the best time to inspect your Shift Coupler Bushings. If there is excessive play in your shifter, replace the coupler before sealing the tunnel.

  4. Position the Cover: Align the EMPI cover over the opening. The dimpled side should face outward.

  5. Secure: Install the included mounting screw. Do not over-tighten, as you want to maintain a flat seal against the tunnel.

  6. Optional Seal: For a completely weather-tight seal (especially on Buggies or Things), a thin bead of strip caulk or a rubber gasket can be used around the perimeter.

Best Book About Comic Book Guy EVER
Format: Hardcover
You love the Simpsons! You love Comic Book Guy! And, well, to gain the best possible enjoyment of this book, you also love, or at least have a passing knowledge of, movies, science-fiction, pro wrestling (Rob Van Dam in ECW makes a cameo!), comics, video games, Dungeons & Dragons, and just general geek culture. And if you do, you'll LOVE this book. Sure, it seems to be the same gags just updated every few pages... but what are you expecting, Pride and Prejudice? It's an illustrated book, it has Simpsons-esque humor, and it's an enjoyable read. Highly recommended.
