Victron Zigbee to RS485 Converter: Wireless Energy Monitoring for GX Devices
Seamless Wireless Integration for Victron Energy Systems
The Victron Zigbee to RS485 converter provides a reliable wireless link between your Victron Energy Meter and a GX device, eliminating the need for long RS485 cable runs. This converter pair uses Zigbee wireless protocol to transmit energy data over distances up to 1600 metres in open air, making it an ideal solution for installations where wired connections are impractical or costly.
Engineered for professional energy management, this converter ensures stable, low-latency communication between your energy meter and monitoring system. It is particularly suited to off-grid solar installations, marine energy systems, and industrial power monitoring where reliable data transmission is critical.
Robust Industrial Design for Harsh Environments
Housed in a rugged metal enclosure with an integrated mounting flange, the converter is built to withstand demanding conditions. It operates across a wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C, ensuring consistent performance in extreme climates. The external 2.4GHz dipole antenna enhances signal strength and range, while the green terminal blocks provide secure RS485 and power connections.
With support for a broad DC power input range of 5V to 28V, the converter can be powered directly from a variety of sources, including battery banks and industrial power supplies. An EU-style power adapter is included for standalone operation, adding flexibility to your installation.
Key Features
- Wireless RS485 extension — replaces physical cabling with a robust Zigbee link
- Up to 1600 m open-air range — suitable for large properties and remote monitoring
- Wide 5-28V DC power input — compatible with common system voltages
- Industrial temperature range — reliable operation from -40°C to 85°C
- Rugged metal housing — protects against mechanical stress and interference
- Adjustable 2.4GHz antenna — optimises signal direction for challenging layouts
- TX/RX status LEDs — provides at-a-glance communication diagnostics
- Default router configuration — simplifies pairing with the coordinator unit
Simplified Installation and Configuration
The converter comes pre-configured as a Zigbee router with default settings (PAN ID 0x199B, Channel 22 at 2460 MHz), allowing quick pairing with the coordinator unit. The 3-pin RS485 terminal (A, B, GND) accepts standard twisted-pair wiring, and the UART baud rate is set to 38400 bps by default, with options from 9600 to 115200 bps for compatibility with various devices.
This converter is designed specifically for use with Victron Energy Meters and GX devices, ensuring seamless integration into your existing Victron ecosystem. It solves the common problem of RS485 distance limitations and electrical noise interference that can affect wired connections in industrial or mobile environments.
Applications
- Wireless connection of Victron Energy Meter to Cerbo GX or Color Control GX
- Remote monitoring of solar production and consumption in large off-grid systems
- Marine and RV installations where cable routing is difficult
- Industrial energy management with distributed metering points
- Retrofit projects where adding new cables is not feasible
By using this wireless converter, you reduce the risk of ground loops and voltage differentials that can occur over long RS485 cable runs, improving overall system reliability.
Upgrade Your Energy Monitoring Today
Add wireless flexibility to your Victron system with the Zigbee to RS485 converter.
