The Artus Japanese Beauty Hand Painted Fountain Pen pairs fine art with a purposeful writing instrument. Built around a hand-painted miniature composition in a refined palette of black and orange, it presents an intimate portrait rendered with meticulous brushwork and sealed under a luminous, high-gloss finish. The result is a deeply layered visual presence that rewards close study while offering the daily practicality of an 18k gold fine nib and a cartridge/converter system.

Craftsmanship & Design

At the heart of this piece is a true miniature painting executed directly on the pen body. Each stroke is applied with careful control, building tonal depth and subtle gradients that bring the Japanese Beauty theme to life without overwhelming the silhouette. Multiple coats of a clear protective finish amplify color saturation and create a sense of optical depth, while providing a smooth, glasslike exterior that feels composed in the hand.

The design language remains elegant and understated so that the artwork remains the focal point. Soft contours and cohesive proportions create a balanced profile, allowing the pen to transition comfortably from display to daily writing without visual or ergonomic compromise.

Writing Experience

An 18k gold fine nib delivers a precise, quietly expressive line with the gentle softness characteristic of solid gold. It is tuned for consistent flow, making notes, annotations, and longer sessions feel composed and unforced. The international cartridge/converter format provides dependable versatility for both bottled inks and travel-friendly cartridges, supporting the pen's role as a functional instrument as much as an art object.

Brand Heritage & Provenance

Artus is known for elevating traditional miniature painting on modern writing instruments, producing pieces in small artisanal quantities where no two are exactly alike. The Japanese Beauty theme reflects the atelier's sensitivity to cultural aesthetics and narrative detail, translated through paint rather than printed motifs. For collectors, this approach offers individuality and a direct connection to the artist's hand, supported by contemporary reliability at the desk.

Long lasting. Excellent protection.
We took a trip to Florida from DC. Through full days at Disney and days on the beach, no one had even the slightest sunburn. We made sure to apply it at regular intervals, and that seemed to work amazingly. The texture wasn’t greasy at all, and the kids seem to have no problem putting it on themselves. It was very water resistant and seemed to last long in the pool. No overtly noticeable fragrances.

One of my fave moisturizers!
Love love love this lotion! No residue, unscented and just enjoyable to use. It is very hydrating and great to use after you've been outside or just need a little extra boost to your skin. The ingredients are exceptional and I'm really excited to try other Blue Lizard brand products!! Try it, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Not good if you need Whole Foods gift cards
If you want to buy Whole Foods gift cards (which is why I got it) it flags it for fraud and doesnt let you. I was told you can spend at Whole Foods but not buy WF gift cards, even though it is a Prime Credit Card. Also if you buy WF gift cards online, you dont get the rewards since its from a gift card company and not Whole Foods.
