ABOUT THE ART
Released in 1984 during the height of the collectible doll movement, this 'Phoenix Elvis' figure captures the enduring mythology of Elvis Presley as both performer and cultural icon. Produced by World Doll, Inc. and officially endorsed by Graceland, the piece reflects a moment when nostalgia and celebrity memorabilia began to merge into a serious collector market—positioning Elvis not just as a musician, but as a lasting symbol of American pop culture.
The sculpt draws inspiration from Elvis’ legendary stage presence, presenting him mid-performance with microphone in hand and dressed in a stylized black jumpsuit reminiscent of his later-era concerts. The figure leans into an idealized, almost theatrical interpretation—emphasizing charisma, movement, and persona over strict realism. This approach gives the piece a distinctive charm, bridging the gap between traditional doll-making and early celebrity art collectibles.
As the second release in the Celebrity Collection, this limited edition figure represents an important chapter in the evolution of licensed pop culture art objects. It stands as both a tribute to Elvis’ legacy and a snapshot of 1980s collectible design—where craftsmanship, branding, and fandom intersected to create objects meant not just to be owned, but displayed and celebrated.
