Here at Chimney Sheep, over the years we've been lucky enough to hear all kinds of tales about customers dogs. The most common is that a cheeky pup has ended up running off with a customer's Chimney Sheep chimney draught excluder and proceeding to make a bed out of it. So, this got us thinking, why aren't we offering up a bed specifically for dogs? We wanted to ensure what we offered up wasn't just of exceptional quality - but pawsitively great for the environment too. That's why we've made sure to only use the highest quality natural materials when it comes to our PetSnug wool dog beds. As well as this, we're taking advantage of handcrafting and low energy small batch production methods to not only ensure what we make is quality, but has a low carbon footprint too. Our PetSnug felted dog beds really are a pawesomely sustainable choice.

Made of tightly felted locally sourced Herdwick sheep wool each individual PetSnug wool felt dog bed is carefully handcrafted in our Cumbrian factory close to the Lake District using only the best sustainable materials.  We directly source all of our Herdwick sheep's wool from local farmers, paying them a fair price for their wool and organising the collection our selves. Each individual PetSnug woolen dog bed is finished with you guessed it a comfy wool pet cushion. Again stuffed with Herdwick sheep's wool, and coated in a high quality, water resistant, wipeable naturally coloured organic cotton. The perfect cosy spot for your furry friend to curl up in.

Small dogs especially, often seek places to curl up and rest, they're looking for safety and comfort. So, when designed our PetSnug dog beds we wanted to ensure that not only were they stylish and sustainable, but they'd be loved by dogs too. The raised wall ensures your pup will feel safe and secure, whilst the thick wool cushion will keep them comfy even on the hardest of floors.

How will this wool pet bed help me lower my dog's carbon paw print?

All of our PetSnug felted wool dog beds are made from entirely natural materials. There's absolutely no plastic content and the wool dog beds are free from solvents and glues. The outer cosy is made entirely of tightly felted Herdwick sheep's wool, so it holds its shape well. Inside the outer, lies a natural water resistant coloured organic cotton cushion filled with plump sheep's wool. Every aspect of this felt dog bed is held together using natural thread. So you can rest assured that when your pup goes to bed for the night they're not laying on anything plastic. There's no reliance on oil or other non-renewable materials in order for us to produce this cosy dog bed, paired with our low energy consumption production methods, our ability to source the materials close to home and our small batch, low waste production practices, this wool felt dog bed has a truly low carbon footprint. By choosing a PetSnug wool felt dog bed instead of a standard synthetic bed you'll be well and truly lowering your pups carbon pawprint.

What breeds of dog will fit into a Petsnug wool felt dog bed?

Each individual PetSnug wool felt dog bed measures 45cm in diameter x 23cm in height. This means unfortunately not every dog will fit into this comfortable wool dog bed. However, they are perfect for smaller breeds, especially those that enjoy curling up inside small secure spaces.

We feel that this PetSnug wool felt dog bed would suit all toy breeds such as Toy Poodles, Daschunds, Yorskhire Terriers. It would also suit small breeds such as Border Terriers, West Highland Terriers, Miniature Schnauzers and Jack Russels. It will also fit smaller medium breed dogs, all the way up to a small Cocker Spaniel.

Pup's like these love to get cosy, so don't forget to purchase an extra PetSnug wool pet cushion to ensure you've always got a spare, even if one gets a little mucky. Or use one to make an extra comfy sustainable snuggle spot just for when your pup doesn't feel like curling up in their PetSnug bed of course!

Why should I choose a wool felt dog bed for my dog?

Not only is wool an incredibly comfy natural material, it's got all kinds of great properties which make it a fantastic thing to make a pet bed out of.

Not only is wool cosy, it's naturally antibacterial , this means bacteria struggle to grow inside of it, so it doesn't harbour odours. It's a sustainable material that naturally holds carbon, plus with this particular wool dog bed, all of the sheep's wool is ethically sourced directly from the farmer, with the farmer being paid a fair price for their wool. It's also a wonderful natural insulator whilst still being breathable, meaning it's great at regulating temperature.

By purchasing a British wool product you'll also be helping support British farmers!

How can I reduce my dogs carbon paw print?

Unbelievably an average dog produces approximately 770 kg of carbon per year - similar to a small petrol car. A slightly unbelievable amount! Dogs seem to produce a very significant amount of carbon dioxide taking into account things like their eating habits and product needs. This means they're directly contributing to the increasing amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere, as well as things like the greenhouse effect.

However, as their owner there are steps you can take to minimise your dogs effect on the environment. One of the steps you can take is to make eco-friendly choices for them when it comes to the products they need. Reduce their carbon paw print by making swaps in the name of sustainability. For some inspiration why not browse our range of natural products for pets? An easy first step is something as simple as reducing your pets reliability on plastic by swapping out their synthetic collars and leads for something more natural. You see, like-for-like swaps can be as simple as that, and when you make a few they really add up!

15 Minutes….with update x2
Color: Orange
Within 15 minutes my 10-month old puppy had one of the moose antlers torn half off. I’ll see if he is able to destruct any more of this “indestructible” toy. If it holds up I’ll come back and upgrade the number of stars but for now…not impressed. UPDATE: Sadly he was able to rip it open via the appendages (the legs). The main body of the toy seems pretty tough but no dog is going to keep away from the legs. Downgrade to 1 star. UPDATE #2: I just received my second attempt at using this “indestructible” toy. This time I went with the rino since the legs are rope and not a sewn on leg. Well, in about 5 minutes my puppy had the horn torn and the horn provides direct access to the inside stuffing. As mentioned above, the legs are rope. The design was pretty smart in that both the front legs is one posted of rope going through a hole made in the stuffed toy. Same for the rear legs. This prevents the dog tearing them off and getting access to the stuffing. Sadly the horn being torn off right away makes this toy destructible. I think the only way they may be successful calling this an indestructible toy would be if they made a ball out of the body material or perhaps something in the shape of a bone.

AWESOME TOY for aggressive chewers
My 4 legged fur baby has only had for a few days. Now we’ve purchased several others in the past and he LOVES them. EXTREMELY durable. He is a dachshund and loves to destroy his toys. It’s almost like it’s a mission to see how fast to get the stuffing and squeakers out of his toys and can say he has been unable to destroy any. Now the reason I gave this only 4 stars is because the end of the tail has hair like material and he did start tearing this apart. Was finding the hair on his blanket and hanging out of his mouth. So I just trimmed the tail and he is back to loving on his toy. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Cute and my dog loves it
My dog loves toys she can play rough with both her teeth and paws and this one was loved the second it came out of the packaging. We liked that the eyes are sewn patches so nothing to swallow if it detaches (other than the material). The knotted ropes that form it’s arms and legs actually move through the body from side to side, which makes tugging games fun and interesting. We also liked that there were no dangling easy-to-chew off bits, for example, the ears are tiny nubs so she can’t get them off with her teeth easily. The stuffing is also firm and full so it’s like a soft toy to cuddle up with but with rope limbs to sink her teeth into. She rates it highly.

Chew proof except for stuffing
Color: Grey, Color: Grey
I left Sage with her new chew toy and was distracted by something in the other room. I came back not 5 minutes later, and this was what I saw! Stuffing all over the floor! And that was just the beginning. By the end of the day, I had cleaned up stuffing several times from separate sessions with the toy! The rest of the poor toy is holding together, except that it has lost a couple of squeakers. I don't know whether to recommend it or not. Sage is exceptionally, extraordinarily, extremely, immensely, and profoundly aggressive when she chews (on inanimate objects only -- no humans or other animals!).
