תמרה, אישה בשנות השישים המאוחרות, ילידת מרוקו, מנהלת חשבון נפש נוקב עם עצמה ועם אלוהיה ליד מיטת-חוליו של יוסף, בעלה. חשבון נפש זה מתעצם עם הגעתו של חולה חדש, יואל, קיבוצניק בשנות השבעים לחייו, שזוכה לביקורים יומיומיים של בתו היחידה, אמיליה, פסיכואנליטיקאית במקצועה.
