The Sailor 1911L Ringless Fountain Pen - Kyoto Garden Suikyou draws inspiration from one of the most captivating visual elements found in traditional Japanese gardens: the reflection of water. "Suikyou" can be interpreted as a water mirror, referring to the tranquil surface of a pond that reflects the surrounding landscape with remarkable clarity. In Japanese garden design, still water serves not merely as a decorative feature, but as a symbol of harmony, contemplation, and the interconnected relationship between nature and the observer. Through its luminous blue resin and elegant translucency, Suikyou captures the serene beauty of reflected skies and calm garden waters.

Part of Sailor's Kyoto Garden collection, Suikyou explores the subtle beauty found within Japan's most celebrated garden traditions. Rather than depicting a specific scene, the pen evokes the quiet experience of standing beside a still pond where the sky, trees, and architecture seem to dissolve into a seamless reflection. The result is a writing instrument that feels peaceful, refined, and distinctly Japanese in its aesthetic sensibilities.

Craftsmanship & Design

The Kyoto Garden Suikyou features richly layered translucent resin in shades of blue that range from crystal-clear aqua to deeper sapphire tones. Light moves beautifully through the material, creating a sense of depth and fluidity reminiscent of sunlight reflecting across still water. Depending on the angle and surrounding illumination, the resin reveals subtle shifts in tone that enhance the impression of movement and reflection.

As part of Sailor's Ringless collection, the pen omits the traditional cap band found on many 1911 models. This deliberate design choice creates a cleaner and more uninterrupted silhouette, allowing the resin itself to become the focal point of the composition. The seamless transition from cap to barrel enhances the visual continuity of the material and reinforces the tranquil character of the design.

Enthusiasts often appreciate the Ringless series because it highlights Sailor's exceptional resin craftsmanship. Without a cap band to interrupt the visual flow, the material takes center stage, showcasing the subtle coloration and transparency that distinguish the Kyoto Garden collection.

Writing Experience

The Sailor 1911L Ringless Fountain Pen - Kyoto Garden Suikyou is fitted with Sailor's acclaimed 21-karat gold nib, widely regarded as one of the finest production nibs available today. Known for its precision, consistency, and distinctive writing feel, the nib delivers controlled ink flow and the subtle tactile feedback that has become a hallmark of the Sailor writing experience.

The larger 1911L platform provides excellent balance and comfort during extended writing sessions, making the pen equally suitable for journaling, correspondence, and everyday writing. Sailor's nib tuning philosophy emphasizes connection to the page rather than absolute smoothness, creating a writing experience that feels deliberate, expressive, and highly engaging.

The cartridge/converter filling system offers flexibility while allowing writers to explore Sailor's extensive range of fountain pen inks, many of which are themselves inspired by Japanese landscapes, seasons, and cultural traditions.

Brand Heritage

Founded in Hiroshima in 1911, Sailor has spent more than a century refining the art of Japanese fountain pen manufacturing. The company's reputation rests upon exceptional nib craftsmanship, meticulous quality control, and a deep appreciation for Japanese aesthetics and cultural inspiration.

The Kyoto Garden collection exemplifies Sailor's ability to translate traditional Japanese beauty into modern writing instruments. Through its luminous coloration, ringless design, and outstanding writing performance, Kyoto Garden Suikyou captures the reflective tranquility of water within Japan's historic gardens while delivering the precise writing experience that has made Sailor a favorite among fountain pen enthusiasts worldwide.

Awesome product... however...
This stuff is great, it's enough coverage to just throw it on and go. It's so light, and definitely reduces oil, I've only had it for 2 days so I can't say whether or not it makes my skin breakout. But typically la Roche products are awesome on my sensitive combo skin The only drawback to this product is the fair tone, is suuuppper light. I am blonde haired light skin, green eyed, sorta freckley person. I burn and then tan sorta well but never dark. And the fair/light color ghosts me out quite a bit. But I'm afraid the darker color will be too yellow. I just bought the darker tone. I'll probably mix them. Contouring the fair tone helps the wash out, but for me, that's not the point of a BB. I just want minimal coverage so I can quickly put it on and not worry about anything. I think I like the color of the tinted mineral sunscreen better. We'll see about the other tone. Maybe the fair tone will work better for me in the winter. Over all it's great but I spent $60 on BB cream which is a little outrageous.

An excellent makeup staple to have in your collection
This is a rich, smooth, creamy SPF foundation that doesn't leave harsh lines on your face from not blending enough. It really blends in with your complexion. This product is also lovely because it has SPF in it, so you are providing sun protection to your face. A little bit goes a long way with this product, so it should last several months of normal use. An excellent makeup staple to have in your collection; one that not only protects your skin but that looks natural and soft.

if you’re a skeptic read this!
I am such a skeptic about this sort of stuff. I’ve used many different bb creams, concealers, and foundations that have fallen short of the mark and I was very very wary of purchasing this. Sometimes people overhype things and I end up spending money on things that don’t even work!! Long story short, I am 100% sold on it. As someone who has struggled with painful hormonal acne for several years now I am always scared of putting anything on my face, but this has not caused any break outs or dried me out any more than I already am from my acne topical cream. It blurs out all imperfections - and acne scars - and looks just like your skin. I can’t believe how well it works. I’ll never not purchase this as it’s now become essential for whenever I am wearing make up!! So yes, believe all the reviews because it’s the truth!!

This is not for fair / light skin
Honestly, my skin is not even that fair; it's more fair/light. This product is way too dark. I guess I will list the pros as well. It smells nice, the texture is nice, and it has good coverage. But I just can't wear it because it makes my face 3 shades darker.

Only product that doesn't settle into my pores!
I have so many liquid and powder foundations, you name it I've tried it! They all settle into the pores on my nose to the point where sometimes I almost feel it looks better without makeup. I'm not usually a bb cream person because I have quite oily skin, but this stuff is magic. It is very similar to a silicone based primer, but works better. It has surprisingly good coverage, I just add another layer to problem areas, and spot conceal if needed. However, this doesn't have the best staying power, but none of my foundations ever stay on anyway! So I set it with powder, either loose or even a light layer of a powder foundation and it looks very nice. Also sometimes if I want to wear a different foundation I'll use this just on my nose area sort of like a primer. I am 28 with oily skin, minor breakouts, and an nc20 with a lot of redness, which this evens out, for reference.
