All Earthwise Meadowscaping mixes can be planted into prepared bare soil or overseeded into an existing lawn or open landscape. The best approach depends on your starting conditions, timeline, and long-term goals.

Bare Soil Planting

  • Offers the fastest, most uniform meadow establishment
  • Ideal for new landscapes, lawn removals, and restoration projects
  • Clear existing vegetation and lightly loosen the top 1–2 inches of soil
  • Broadcast seed evenly and press into the soil surface — do not bury

Overseeding

  • Allows your landscape to transition naturally over time
  • Works best in thin lawns, open soil patches, or low-competition areas
  • Seed-to-soil contact is critical — rake lightly or mow low before seeding
  • Establishment is slower but integrates well with existing soil ecosystems

Timing & Establishment

  • Fall planting is preferred, allowing natural cold stratification for many species
  • Spring planting is possible, though some wildflowers and grasses may emerge later
