Also known as Fergusson, the clan flourished throughout Scotland. In the western Highlands of Scotland it traces its origins from an ancient king of Dalriada, while in the southwest of Scotland its descent is traced from a twelfth century Lord of Galloway. The eighteenth century poet Robert Fergusson had a profound influence on the work of Scotland's national bard Robert Burns.
