A evocative jewel from the early Victorian era, this exquisite ring captures the artistry of a bygone age. Created in 9 carat gold, its delicate filigree shoulders frame a rectangular panel of micro mosaic work. A painstakingly composed image formed from tiny tesserae. Within the panel, rendered in elegant monochrome tones, is the serene figure of a classical woman; a subject beloved in 19th century.

Although some of the tiny glass tiles have been lost over time, the piece retains all the romance and beauty of its original form. The gentle signs of age only enhance its character, bearing witness to a life well travelled and a history cherished.

This ring was most likely acquired as a Grand Tour souvenir, collected by a traveller visiting Europe in the mid 19th century. Micro mosaics were among the most prized keepsakes of these journeys, treasured as wearable art and tangible connections to the classical world.

A miniature work of art and a remarkable survival of early Victorian design, this ring is not only a piece of jewellery but a momento of history.

Brought the adventure to life
Format: Paperback
I didn’t expect to feel so pulled into these ancient stories, but this translation made the adventures and struggles feel real and vivid. The language is modern enough to understand easily but keeps the weight and drama of Homer’s world. It’s the kind of book that makes you appreciate why these stories have lasted so long, and it’s been a rewarding read I’m glad I added to my shelf.

Finally made Homer click for me
Format: Paperback
I’ve tried reading The Iliad and The Odyssey before but always got lost in the language. This translation is clear and smooth while keeping the epic feel of the stories. It helped me actually enjoy the characters and battles without feeling like I was stuck in a high school assignment. It’s made these classics feel alive and human, and I’m glad I gave it another try with this version.

Epic tales that still resonate
Format: Paperback
I dove into Dawson’s twin translation of The Iliad and The Odyssey hoping for clarity—and instead found myself struck by their emotional pull. Achilles’ fury, Hector’s honor, Odysseus’ longing for home—it all felt immediate and real. Dawson’s language flows so naturally, I forgot I was reading an ancient text. There were moments I stopped and sighed, moved by how these characters still speak to our hearts today.

Timeless adventure, beautifully retold
Format: Paperback
I started with The Iliad, expecting a dry history lesson, and ended up caught in the drama of gods and men. Then The Odyssey stole my evenings—each chapter like an invitation back into wonder. Superb translation.
