Він намагається осягнути, що відбулося, осмислити своє буття — попереднє і нинішнє, і єдиною зарадницею в його марноті стає сестра. Утім і їй згодом уривається терпець. Навряд чи хоч якийсь із творів Ф. Кафки може закінчитися бодай найдрібнішим, найпримарнішим сподіванням на ліпше, однак і потворність світу, і навіть абсурд буття приховують ледь проглядні, тонкі смисли, вхопивши які, можна все-таки балансувати в загрозливому світі, повільно крокуючи його химерністю.
