Description
Via Pola Montepulciano 2024Our Montepulciano has been carefully crafted to create a wine which reinvigorates the traditional perception of a Montepulciano. Hand harvested, partial carbonic maceration and minimal oak have created a wine that is juicy, complex and most importantly very drinkable. Ripe plum, earthy, with subtle whole bunch derived spice notes. Expect a mid weighted palate, reflective of the cooler 2024 growing season, a juicy fruit core and a delicate tannin
Our Montepulciano has been carefully crafted to create a wine which reinvigorates the traditional perception of a Montepulciano. Hand harvested, partial carbonic maceration and minimal oak have created a wine that is juicy, complex and most importantly very drinkable.
Ripe plum, earthy, with subtle whole bunch derived spice notes. Expect a mid-weighted palate, reflective of the cooler 2024 growing season, a juicy fruit core and a delicate tannin finish. The ultimate pizza and pasta wine!
The fruit for our Montepulciano comes from an adjoining Via Pola Vineyard which was established in 2008. Given that we’ve been growing this variety for multiple seasons we knew that it would be a great first addition to the Via Pola range of wines.
When making this wine, we wanted it to be juicy, bright and fruit driven whilst showing some varietal complexity. Hence our decision to separate a small parcel and undertake carbonic maceration. This funky whole bunch fermentation technique allows the intact berries to ferment from the inside, creating bright red fruit aromatics.
The remaining portion of the grapes were fermented on skins in a more conventional fashion, with care being taken to extract the desired amount of colour, tannin and flavour throughout the fermentation. The wine was aged in a mix of stainless steel and some older large format oak barrels before being bottled.
