The Humata tyermannii, also known as the White Rabbit’s Foot Fern, is a charming and unique fern with delicate, lacy green fronds that emerge from fuzzy, silvery rhizomes that creep over the pot’s surface—giving it a distinctive, almost whimsical look. It’s an easy-going plant that adds a lush, textural touch to any space.
Light: Humata tyermannii thrives in bright, indirect light but will also tolerate moderate shade. Avoid strong, direct sunlight, as it can scorch the fronds. A spot near an east or north-facing window is ideal, or set it back from a brighter window filtered by sheer curtains.
Water: This fern enjoys consistent moisture but dislikes being soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry, and ensure the pot has good drainage. Mist regularly or keep in a humid environment, especially during dry winter months. Avoid letting the fuzzy rhizomes sit in water.
