Holland '44 is a two-player game that portrays the combined ground and airborne assault by the Allies in the Netherlands during WWII, known as Operation Market-Garden. The game begins with the airborne landings on September 17th and continues through September 23rd. The Allied player must urgently advance ground forces to relieve the surrounded airborne divisions and secure a bridge across the Rhine.

Each day consists of three turns: two daylight turns of 6 hours each and one night turn of 12 hours. The game spans 20 total turns, with a shorter scenario focusing on the first 10 critical turns.

The map scale is 2 kilometers per hex, covering the battlefield from the Belgium border to Arnhem, including the area where the British 8th Corps fought on the right flank of the 30th Corps. Most units in the game are battalions, with some company-sized units included.
