Hamad bin Saadna, a tribesman of the Bayt Hanna lineage of Rashid Bedouin, is kneeling in the sand at the encampment of Muhammad, a sheikh of the Rashid Bedouin. In the far background two ceramic cups rest on top of a bag, and a pair of slippers lay in the sand. Wilfred Thesiger took this picture when he and his Bedouin companions stayed with Muhammad and his sons during their first crossing of the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) in December 1946.
