Description

Piercing Leviathan: God's Defeat of Evil in the Book of Job,his hand pierced the fleeing serpent (Job 26: 13 ESV). One of the most challenging passages in the Old Testament book of Job comes in the Lord's second speech (chapters 4041). The characters and the reader have waited a long time for the Lord to speak only to receive what is traditionally interpreted as a long description of a hippopotamus and a crocodile (Behemoth and Leviathan). The stakes are very high. Is God right to run the world in such a way

‘ … his hand pierced the fleeing serpent’ (Job 26:13 ESV). One of the most challenging passages in the Old Testament book of Job comes in the Lord's second speech (chapters 40–41). The characters and the reader have waited a long time for the Lord to speak – only to receive what is traditionally interpreted as a long description of a hippopotamus and a crocodile (Behemoth and Leviathan). The stakes are very high. Is God right to run the world in such a way that allows such terrible suffering for one of his most loyal servants? Is Job right to keep trusting God in the midst of much criticism? It is difficult for modern readers to avoid a sense of frustrating anti-climax as the book concludes. Eric Ortlund argues that Behemoth and Leviathan are better understood as symbols of cosmic chaos and evil. A supernatural interpretation fits better exegetically within the book of Job and in its original context. It also helps us to appreciate the satisfying climax to the book: in describing Behemoth and Leviathan, God is directly engaging with Job's complaint about divine justice, implying that he understands the evil at loose in his creation better than Job does, that he is in control of it, and will one day destroy it.

______________

Recent years have witnessed a plethora of studies on Job, but none of them is quite like this one. Most make much of God's apparent refusal to address Job's questions directly: on this reading, God wants us to trust the One who cast Orion into the heavens, who controls the treasures of the snow, who made the crocodile. God is to be trusted because he is incomparably greater than we are. But Eric Ortlund argues that this interpretation of the book mis-reads too many passages. Probing carefully such features as the double speeches of God, the differences between Job's first and second responses to God's speeches, and the meaning of Leviathan, he argues persuasively that the Book of Job is not as open-ended as many have thought, but offers a firm foundation for Job's ultimate response. Comfortable Shoes Right Out of the Box
Size: 9, Color: Black
I bought these shoes for my husband. He has a very hard time finding quality, comfortable shoes. These shoes are just as comfortable as his New Balance. He uses them as a dress shoe and wears them at least once a week. There was no break in period necessary. They were comfortable right out of the box! The only thing we didn't like was the white sole color. Once I knew he was going to keep them, I used a black sharpie marker to color the soles black. Instant amazing, comfortable dress shoes. They were well worth the cost. If you or your SO needs a comfortable pair of shoes, we highly recommend them.

Paid for new, received used.
Size: 9.5 Wide, Color: Cognac, Size: 9.5 Wide, Color: Cognac
Arrived dirty as if someone whore it for more than a few days. Maybe I was mistaken, but I saw nothing about “previously used” on the Amazon page. Returned it. I would suggest that the company use quality control when it comes to shipping. The shoes seem find otherwise. I ordered 9.5 and it was just a bit tight. If I reorder I will go for size 10.

Decent Shoes with Misleading Description (Not Leather)
Size: 12 Wide, Color: Black, Size: 12 Wide, Color: Black
I only look for leather when I’m purchasing dress shoes. Under the description “details” on this item it lists the shoe as leather upper and inner lining. A photo shows “genuine Napa leather lining”. If you keep reading (which I have now that I’ve received the shoes) it shows “faux leather” in the small print and that is not “leather”. I run a small leather business and this irks me because it’s clearly false advertising. The details also show the product is made in Brazil but when they arrived today, the shoe tag shows “Made in China” and “Man Made upper and lower”. I don’t hate the shoes. They look nice. What I know is they won’t hold up over time like leather, which is why the description should be accurate and not misleading.

Great piece of equipment. Worked for mouse, hard drive, and digital camera all into a laptop.
Works great. I used to plug in a mouse, an external hard drive, and an overhead Nikon digital camera for historic digitization of documents and books. It small and compatible and there were no connection or power problems. It feels well built and sturdy and the cord connection to the device is strong and flexible.
