Victron 32A Autotransformer: Step-Up, Step-Down and Split-Phase Balancing

The Victron Autotransformer 120/240VAC 32A is an essential component for complex power systems requiring step-up, step-down, or split-phase output balancing. Designed to seamlessly integrate with advanced energy setups, this transformer ensures optimal utilisation of your power supply, whether you are operating from the grid, a generator, or an inverter.

Master Split-Phase Output Balancing

While step-up and step-down functions are straightforward, managing a split-phase power supply requires careful load balancing. Consider a 30A 120/240V split-phase supply powering both 240V and 120V loads. Because 120V loads are rarely distributed evenly across both legs, a severe current imbalance can occur. For instance, a heavy 120V load on one leg could draw 20A, while the other leg draws only 5A. This imbalance significantly restricts the overall capacity of your system, as one leg may overload while the other remains underutilised.

The Victron 32A step up transformer and balancer solves this issue. By connecting the autotransformer to create a new neutral, any load unbalance is absorbed. In the scenario of a 30A supply, the load difference flows through the neutral and the transformer's windings, allowing the system to operate at its full theoretical capacity without bottlenecking a single 120V leg.

A Smarter Alternative to Stacked Inverters

When designing a 120/240V split-phase system, using a single 240V inverter paired with a Victron autotransformer is often more efficient than stacking two 120V inverters. If you stack two 3kVA 120V inverters, each leg is strictly limited to its individual capacity (e.g., 25A). If the load on one leg is low, that spare capacity cannot be transferred to the other leg.

By contrast, pairing a single 5kVA 240V inverter with this 32A autotransformer supplies balanced load to each 120V leg while allowing spare capacity to cross over. If one leg has minimal load, the other leg can draw significantly more power, up to a maximum unbalance of 32A. This configuration is highly recommended for systems where uneven loads are expected.

Integrated Ground Relay for Seamless Integration

Safety is critical in off-grid and mobile power systems. When operating in inverter mode, the neutral output must be connected to earth to ensure the proper functioning of earth leakage devices like a GFCI or RCD. For split-phase supplies, the neutral must be explicitly grounded. To accommodate this, the Victron autotransformer features a built-in grounding relay that is directly controlled by your 230/240V Multi or Quattro inverter/charger, ensuring compliance and safety without complex external wiring.

Robust Hardware and Thermal Protection

Housed in a durable, powder-coated metal chassis with integrated rear wall-mounting brackets, this unit is built for longevity. The base features a central cooling fan for active thermal management, alongside M25 cable glands for secure, weather-resistant electrical connections. To protect your system, the unit includes temperature protection that will automatically disconnect the supply in the event of overheating, requiring a manual reset via the front-access circuit breaker once safe temperatures are restored.

Key Features

  • Flexible voltage control: Reliable step-up, step-down, and split-phase balancing.
  • High capacity balancing: Absorbs up to 32A of load unbalance to maximise inverter or generator output.
  • Integrated ground relay: Designed for seamless use with Victron Multi and Quattro inverter/chargers.
  • Thermal protection: Auto-disconnect on overheating with a simple manual reset circuit breaker.
  • Clear diagnostics: Front panel status LEDs for power, ground relay state, and temperature.
  • Durable construction: Robust powder-coated enclosure with M25 cable entries and a dedicated earth stud.

Maximise Your Power System Efficiency

Upgrade your electrical architecture with robust load balancing and voltage management. Integrate the Victron Autotransformer 120/240VAC 32A into your setup today to ensure stable, efficient, and safe power distribution across all your critical loads.

Great reef-safe, easy-to-apply sunscreen (comparison of three ThinkSport products)
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I will start by saying that I am used to traditional non-mineral sunscreens and tend to only buy physical/mineral-based sunscreens when I'm going to be in a tropical ocean and need something reef-safe, though more and more kids sunscreens are shifting to mineral-based. After quite a bit of research I settled on ThinkSport for my family's recent trip to Hawaii, and I'm very pleased with it. I brought and used three types of Thinksport sunscreen: Thinksport Kids lotion (yellow/orange and teal squeeze bottle), Thinksport adult lotion (Black, white, and orange squeeze bottle), and Thinksport adult spray (black, white and orange spray bottle). All protected us from sunburn and rubbed in to be invisible as long as skin was dry and free of visible hair (visible whiteness persisted around my husbands facial stubble and chest hair). The only difference between the kids lotion versus the adult lotion is scent--the kids version has a fruitier, more tropical but not-too-strong scent (possibly coconut and something else? it was hard to identify) that I found unobjectionable (though one if my kids wasn't a fan), and the adult lotion had a lighter, less sweet, more citrus-y scent (my son though maybe lime and mint, but I'm not sure that's accurate) that I LOVE. The adult spray had no discernible scent, so I suspect the kids spray might be fairly unscented as well. The easiest to apply by far was the spray--it sprays on white, but feels very light, rubs in easily, and becomes invisible quickly. I was a little worried about whether it could possibly be effective given how light and thin it felt, but it was! The lotions weren't thick for a lotion (but much thicker than the spray) and went on easily, but took more rubbing in to disappear than the spray (this is consistent with my experience with lotion vs spray in traditional sunscreens as well). Invisibility was harder to get after a second or third application or when skin was damp, but all-in-all I found all three Thinksport products to be superior to other mineral-based sunscreens I have tried in the past. In the future I'll probably buy the adult thinksport spray for my kids and husband (who all much prefer a spray-on sunscreen) and the adult thinksport lotion for myself (because I love the scent and don't mind rubbing it in).

Dependable sun protection for active days outdoors
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I like how this sunscreen provides reliable broad-spectrum protection and holds up well during outdoor activities. The zinc oxide formula gives me peace of mind, and I appreciate that it's water resistant and reef-safe. It applies smoothly for a mineral sunscreen and stays on effectively during sports, swimming, and long days in the sun. Overall, it's a trustworthy option for anyone looking for strong sun protection.

Clean product
Size: 3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I only gave it 4 stars because of the smell. Of course it’s sunscreen so it’s going to have a chemical smell but this smell is just too strong for me. Other then that, it’s a great sunscreen. Does take some more rubbing in and be carful to rub it in really good or you’ll have white streaks all over your face. Leaves a bit of a white cast. You don’t need much.

Thinksport SPF 50+ Mineral Sunscreen with Zinc is a reliable, high‑protection option that feels lightweight and non‑greasy on the skin. It applies smoothly without leaving too much white cast for everyday use, and I love that it’s mineral‑based with zinc for strong UVA/UVB defense. Great for active days outdoors. Highly recommend for sensitive skin and safe sun coverage!

Brown skin approved!
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1), Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Does not leave a white cast, feels very light on the skin. Scanned on Yuka and was a 86/100 green zone! It’s so hard to find a sunscreen that isn’t trying to poison you, scanned all the sunscreen at Walmart and were rated a 1/100 through 6/100. Which brought me to Amazon. Thinksport has my vote on goodness and healthiness, would buy again!
