FAQs

Why is your Lavender Gin no longer coloured?

The original recipe used distilled waters made of lavender and echinacea blended with our base gin. Petals to provide colour were then added. The petals that provide the colour are rich in natural anthocynanins. These are responsible for the blue, violet and red pigments we see in the natural world. When you added a tonic or any other fizzy soda to the original gin it changed the pH and so the anthocyanin changes from purple to pink! However after feedback from our customers about the colour fading over time we took the opportunity with the launch of our new bottle to develop a new recipe without colour and we are very pleased with the result. At 40% ABV we feel we get the perfect balance of flavour and aroma and a better mouthfeel for this premium gin.
