Achieve Flawless Chip-Free Finishes on Double-Sided Materials with Freud’s Premium Compression Technology
The Freud 77-212 1/2-Inch Double Compression Spiral Router Bit is the professional’s solution for routing double-sided veneers, laminated materials, and delicate melamine panels. By uniquely combining up-shear and down-shear flutes, this bit compresses the wood fibers toward the center of the board, effectively eliminating chipping and tear-out on both the top and bottom surfaces simultaneously. This makes it an essential tool for high-end cabinetry, furniture making, and any project involving expensive double-sided laminates where a perfect finish is non-negotiable.
Engineered for maximum durability, this bit features Freud’s Black I.C.E. (Industrial Cooling Element) coating, which keeps the cutting edge cool and enhances chip evacuation to prevent heat buildup. Combined with TiCo™ High-Density Carbide, this bit delivers twice the life and performance of standard uncoated bits. Whether you are using a CNC machine, a hand-held router, or a table-mounted setup, the 77-212 provides superior stability and precision in plywood, hardwoods, and softwoods, ensuring industrial-grade results with every pass.
Key Features
- Dual Compression Action: Combines up-shear and down-shear cutting to pull fibers toward the center, preventing tear-out on both sides of the material.
- Black I.C.E. Coating: Provides a cool cutting edge and superior chip evacuation while protecting against heat and corrosion.
- TiCo™ High-Density Carbide: Specialized Freud carbide blend offers 2X increased life and performance compared to standard bits.
- Precision CNC Grinding: Ensures strict tolerances for clean, chip-free cuts in double-sided melamine and laminates.
- Universal Compatibility: Optimized for peak performance in CNC, table-mounted, and hand-held router applications.

Pro-Tip: To get the best results from a compression bit, ensure your depth of cut is deeper than the "upcut length" (11/32") on the first pass. This ensures the down-shear portion of the flute engages the top surface of the laminate immediately, preventing chipping on the top edge while the up-shear portion protects the bottom.
