Living in a self-absorbed world makes it tempting to conform to self absorption. Oftentimes we read this verse and ponder, “What path does God have for me? How will this path benefit me? Will I be happy? Will I do what I initially wanted?”
In our pondering, we conjure up ideas of marriage, success, pleasure, and potentially even fame. While these things are not inherently bad, we are placing an emphasis on the temporal rather than the eternal.
There is glorious news found within the depths of this verse. As Christ followers our path of life is the narrow path, leading directly to the Father. We follow this path by humbling ourselves before God and submitting to His will. In His presence, there we find joy everlasting. At His right hand are pleasures forevermore; it just so happens that Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father. In Christ, there is a fullness of joy.
