Kenya Tree (often Capnella sp.) is one of the hardiest and fastest-growing soft corals in the hobby. It forms branching, tree-like stalks with soft, fluffy polyps and adapts to a wide range of conditions. Great for beginners, nutrient-heavy tanks, and farms that want reliable biomass.

Lighting

Moderate light, around 60 to 120 PAR. Kenya Trees tolerate low light extremely well, though brighter light produces tighter polyps and a slightly firmer structure. High light won’t typically harm them but may cause temporary shrinking during adjustment.

Flow

Moderate, rolling flow. They like a gentle sway, not a blast. Consistent movement keeps their polyps open and helps them shed any mucus film. Too little flow makes them droopy; too much flattens the branches.

Placement

Very flexible. Mid or lower rockwork is common. Kenya Trees grow upward in soft, branching stalks and can drop branches to self-propagate, so give them a spot where dropped frags won’t land on sensitive LPS. They can safely touch rockwork but shouldn’t rub against aggressive corals.

Water parameters

Exceptionally tolerant but happiest in stable, nutrient-positive systems.

Calcium 380 to 420.
Alkalinity 8 to 9.
Magnesium 1250 to 1350.
Nitrate 5 to 25.
Phosphate 0.05 to 0.2.

They thrive in tanks that many SPS would consider “dirty.”

Feeding

Primarily photosynthetic and doesn’t require feeding. They absorb dissolved nutrients readily. Feeding the tank heavier for other corals will also benefit Kenya Trees indirectly.

Growth behavior

Fast to very fast. Kenya Trees grow tall, soft trunks that fork repeatedly, forming a bushy shape. They naturally drop branches to create new colonies—a built-in propagation method. Many hobbyists call them “weeds” because of this, but in a farm or planned display, it’s an advantage.

Sensitivities

Very few. They may shrink temporarily when:
• Adjusting to new light or flow.
• After carbon dosing or aggressive filtration.
• Following temperature or salinity swings.
• Shedding old tissue.

They’re extremely resilient otherwise.

Compatibility

Peaceful. No stingers, no sweepers. They can bother neighbors only by overgrowing or dropping frags that land on sensitive corals. They coexist well with zoas, LPS, leathers, mushrooms, and SPS as long as you manage their self-propagation.

Works well has plenty of pressure.
It is a great device, a bit awkward to use over a bowl sink, but with some minor adjustment of the nozzle, it works well. It appears to be as effective as most water picks and I like not having to fool with a hose, that can break.

Needed replacement, 2nd one works OK
The first one I received had a broken latching mechanism. Not a shipping issue, as the box was fine, it just wouldn't latch the attachments because the mechanism wouldn't come all the way out. After getting a replacement the 2nd one worked better. It has 3 settings for soft, normal, and pulse. For me, the normal put out the best force for clearing out bits. After washing with it for about 30 seconds though I still don't feel it cleans we well as real floss, or even a waterpik, but it does help after brushing. I will add it to my routine as it does help flush out some things, but it won't be replacing my flossing. It is sort of portable, in that can be packed away and holds a charge, but it's still pretty large and takes up a good amount of space in a toiletry bag. It's not bad, but not really outstanding either.

I like this better than my name brand unit
🔵 Features: The water pick boasts a generously sized reservoir, which is a standout feature. It also comes with a convenient USB charger, offers 3 speed settings (normal, soft, and pulse), and features quick and easy detachable heads. 🔵 Power: In terms of power, comparing it to my current unit revealed no noticeable differences in pressure or volume to the naked eye. Both units effortlessly deliver a stream of water up to 12 feet. 🔵 Heads: The water pick includes a plethora of heads, more than most people would likely need. Personally, I would have preferred a lifetime supply of the simple angled head picks, but the variety provided caters to all preferences. 🔵 Overall: After using it for a few days, I found that it performs admirably. When placed side by side with my old unit, I consistently reach for the 7AM2M unit, primarily due to its larger reservoir. In all other aspects, I find them comparable, and I wholeheartedly recommend this water pick to others.

Well designed portable water flosser that's holding up so far
There are a number of such portable water flossers on Amazon, but this is one of the better ones IMO. The water pressure is adequate, with enough settings to allow you to ramp up (or keep using on a lower setting if desired). One nice feature is that the tank detaches easily and this makes filling under a tap easier than other units which don't have an easily detached tank. The tank shape is also a bit fatter so it's not too long along any one dimension. The tank capacity of 300 ml is adequate for a single use. The standard suite of flosser heads are included - flossing itself, peridontal, and one for braces. The tongue cleaner attachment is also there but I prefer to use a separate tongue cleaner tool. Charging is via USB-C and while the port isn't super water proof, there's no damage to the unit yet. Battery life is typical at about 20-30 days with twice a day usage.
