The footbolt Shiraz 2022
 McLaren Vale, Shiraz (100%)
 The Name
Joseph Osborn was a successful racehorse
owner and Footbolt was the pride of his
stable. In 1912 he made the hard decision to
sell his horses to purchase the d’Arenberg
property.
The Vintage
It has been a good winter, the early Spring
rains set the vines up very well. November
was about 3 degrees colder than average and
so the set was variable, especially Mauvedre
which suffered the worst. Luckily, many
varieties still had quite a large potential
crop, so yields ended about 15% down from
2021 (which was a big crop year). December
was bone dry, but January saw 33mm
compared to 20mm average. This too set
the vines up very well. There was almost no
rain and very mild conditions in February,
March and April, free of hot or cold spells
which resulted in very good leaf retention
and ripening. All varieties resulted in
outstanding wines. At this stage, It is early
to call the vintage but I believe the reds from
this vintage are the best I have seen in years.
They show great colour fruit, fruit fragrance,
richness, acidity, tannins and style. The Red
skins were very thick and crunchy and no
shrivel was seen, resulting in high tannin
content, causing us to pull juice off the skins
sweeter than usual, to achieve the desired
 results.

 The Winemaking
Small batches of grapes are crushed gently
and then transferred to five tonne headed
down open fermenters. These batches
remain separate until final blending.
Foot treading is undertaken two thirds of
the way through fermentation.
The wine is then basket pressed and
then transferred to a mixture of new and
used French oak barriques to complete
fermentation. The barrel ferments are aged
on lees, and there is no racking until final
blending. This wine does not undertake
fining or filtration prior to bottling.
 The Characteristics
 Bright Medium purple.
Lifted aromas of dark cherries, black plum,
and a hint of Dutch liquorice.
Rich flavours of black plums, cherries, and
blackberries. Integrated mocha and Dutch
liquorice and black pepper fill out the palate.
Tannins are ripe, rich, and juicy with a
beautifully balanced acid line, which makes
the wine approachable now but will also
cellar for years.
A rich and balanced example of a McLaren
vale classic

Great for big chewers
My dogs have to have these. Have to. When I come home from work they each grab one and prance around like they just caught a moose or something. This past weekend my big boy doodle wanted me to toss it to him like I do his tennis ball. He kept dropping it for me to toss. It was hard explaining that it would be the worst boop he ever felt. Ok, lets talk about longevity. I've had these for over a month and they still look great. Barely looked chewed at all. These are tough and poodles supposedly have soft mouths but mine chew on these a lot. They are large. My female is 60 pounds and my Dood is 90. These chew toys keep my pets engaged when I am busy doing all the things at home so that takes some pressure off of me. I would buy them again for sure.

It's indestructible because your dog won't touch it.
It's made of hard plastic and has a weird odor. Both of my dogs just looked at it, smelled it and walked away.

Great Teething Toy for an Active Puppy
Our 6-month-old Goldendoodle has really enjoyed chewing on these rings. They’ve been especially helpful while she’s been teething, and so far she hasn’t made a dent in them, which is impressive given how much she chews. There’s clearly some sort of flavor or scent on the toy that makes it especially attractive to her, so it keeps her engaged much longer than some other chew toys we’ve tried. The rings feel durable, well made, and are a great way to keep an active puppy occupied. Highly recommend for teething puppies or dogs that are aggressive chewers.

Super hard plastic
This might be okay for big dogs but my little dogs are not interested at all. I’ve heard if you can’t make an indentation w/ your thumb nail, it’s too hard and your dog could chip or break a tooth…

My aggressive chewer had it roughed up in about 10 minutes, and she lost interest.
Both of my dogs were interested in these right away and started playing with them as soon as I gave them to them. After the first day though, they lost interest. They’ve had them for a couple of weeks now and I can’t really get them to go back to them. These aren’t squeaky toys, which is usually what they prefer, so that may be part of it. The size is decent and works for both of my dogs. My smaller dog isn’t much of an aggressive chewer, but she did chew on it some. My bigger dog is an aggressive chewer (about 85 lbs), and she had this one roughed up pretty quickly. After about 10 minutes, it already had some sharp, jagged edges. That makes me a little concerned about safety since it could scratch her mouth. As far as chew resistance and durability, it didn’t hold up the way I expected for something advertised for aggressive chewers. For value, it’s not the best considering how quickly it wore down and the lack of continued interest from my dogs.
