Saragat Vermentino Isola dei Nuraghi IGT

From the sun-drenched island of Sardinia—specifically the remote Isola dei Nuraghi region near the village of Mogoro in the province of Oristano—comes this exceptional expression of Vermentino, one of the Mediterranean's most versatile and food-friendly white grape varieties. Produced by Tenuta Atzei, part of the Farnese Group, this wine honors Sardinia's ancient winemaking heritage and its unspoiled natural beauty, where some vineyards are still gently ploughed by horses and local traditions remain deeply rooted in the culture.

The estate's unique approach blends coastal vineyards with higher elevation sites, creating wines that offer both refreshing vitality and remarkable depth. Made from 100% Vermentino grapes, the wine undergoes careful vinification to preserve its fresh character. After a brief skin maceration, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks without oxygen contact, using selected yeasts. The wine then undergoes bâtonnage (lees stirring) in the tank for 40 days, adding texture and complexity while maintaining the grape's natural brightness.

Tasting Notes:

At 13% ABV, this Vermentino displays a luminous straw-yellow color with brilliant green highlights that catch the light. The nose gradually opens to reveal captivating aromatics—rosemary (a signature of the varietal), elderflower, white peach, and exotic lychee, layered with notes of sage, green apple, pineapple, and apricot. Hints of acacia and jasmine add floral elegance.

On the palate, the wine is fresh, soft, and fruity yet polished and medium-bodied. It starts smooth, then becomes savory and lively with tense, bright acidity that energizes every sip. Stone fruit flavors—peach, apricot—mingle with citrus peel and tropical notes, all supported by excellent structure and balance. The crisp, minerally finish is long and persistent, leaving a light, typical bitter note that's characteristic of great Vermentino, along with lingering impressions of citrus, herbs, and that distinctive Mediterranean salinity.

This is an elegant, versatile white wine that pairs beautifully with grilled Mediterranean fish, fried trout, leek soup, fresh green vegetables, gnocchi with pesto, or shellfish—perfect for your coastal dining experiences.

Great book
The narrator possesses a refined and compelling voice, and the author's writing style stimulates the mind. The author uses a tremendous amount of detail to avoid unnecessary/inaccurate generalizations and intentional/unintentional misinterpretations. However, the author executes this feat without allowing the reader to feel lost in mundane facts. I enjoyed the author's use of rhetorical questions to explore the viewpoints of persons who oppose his assertions. Overall, an informative and invigorating read. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has ever asked, "Why did certain people and cultures end up with so much, while others ended up with so little".

Guns, Germa and Steel Audio Version
A great audio adaptation of a great book. I listened to it on my commute to work. I have the actual book, but had no time to sit down and read it. If you are very busy, audio versions of books really work well.
