At the age of 36, on the verge of a completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi’s health began to falter. He started losing weight and was wracked by waves of excruciating back pain. A CT scan confirmed what Paul, deep down, had suspected: he had stage four lung cancer, widely disseminated. One day, he was a doctor making a living treating the dying, and the next, he was a patient struggling to live. Just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined, the culmination of decades of striving, evaporated.
With incredible literary quality, philosophical acuity, and medical authority, he approaches the questions raised by facing mortality from the dual perspective of the neurosurgeon who spent a decade meeting patients in the twilight between life and death, and the terminally ill patient who suddenly found himself living in that liminality. What makes life worth living in the face of death? What happens when the future, instead of being a ladder toward the goals of life, flattens out into a perpetual present? When faced with a terminal diagnosis, what does it mean to have a child, to nuture a new life as another one fades away? God’s love and desire for personal relationship
Format: Paperback
In The Abba Foundation, Dr. Chiqui Wood (2018) vividly demonstrates God’s love and desire for personal relationship with every person, regardless of their past or perceived lack of goodness. The central theme, God’s nature is love and the Father’s heart can be known through His relationship with Jesus, is scripturally supported throughout the book. Wood (2018) advocates, “God is by nature infinite, other-centered, self-giving, over-flowing love…He is on a mission to restore the world because He loves His creation” (p. 90).
There are many influencers to a person’s view of God, including earthly fathers, life experiences, and backgrounds. Religion promotes performance and regulation as qualifiers for God’s love and acceptance; an individual’s holiness determines the level of God’s love. Wood (2018) contends, the Father desires our holiness, not for His sake, but for ours. Abba wants us to live in freedom and wholeness. The author offers a compelling argument that the Ten Commandments may not be strictly as set of rules or performance burden, “but rather the painting of a picture of what relational wholeness looks like” (p. 103).
Wood (2018) masterfully combines scripture with modern application, walking the reader through a journey of experiencing and believing that God truly loves us unconditionally and continually seeks a personal relationship. Without reverting to religious hyperbole, she skillfully addresses the question, how does a good loving Father allow bad things to happen?
The Abba Foundation is splendidly written, providing insight for the individual attempting to gain greater understanding in a world in turmoil, while seeking inner peace and joy. The seasoned Christian with a desire for a deeper relationship with Abba will find biblical foundation for a good loving Father whose primary desire is personal relationship. The format of the book provides an excellent resource for group studies and discussions.

LOVE this book.
Format: Paperback
This book opens your eyes to the nature of Abba Father in beautiful ways. It helped me identify wrong beliefs I had about God and brought such clarity to His loving, Fatherly nature. I recommend if you’re wanting to dive deeper into seeing the Father rightly.

The Father's Intense Love and Forgiveness
Format: Paperback
Chiqui Wood shows how our heavenly Father is driven with intense love and forgiveness to see His creation and especially each one of us restored in communion with Him. Therefore, the Father gives us of His best—the pattern Son who reveals the Father’s great heart of love for the world (John 3:16). God is wooing us to love Him with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves (Luke 10:27). Wood explains that to truly be who God created us to be, we need “others who are gifted in areas where we lack” (53). We were created “male and female” so right there you have tremendous diversity; yet, it is in the oneness of this diversity that we will see all creation set free into the glorious liberty of the sons of God (Rom. 8:21). Wood references the works of notable scholars in the field and brings together ministries who are truly gifted to supply answers where we have lacked. I highly recommend this book for home Bible study groups, as it presents the material in portions that young believers can relate to and assimilate. Each chapter includes key points for reflection, a related closing prayer, and questions for group discussion.

Life Changing

Discipleship: Growing deeper in Love with God.

This is an insightful look at the real and personal questions that disciples of Christ have in their relationship with Father-God. It is appropriate for adult small group studies or individual growth, but keep a journal of the things that the Holy Spirit impresses upon your heart.
