Narrow Leaf Guava is a beautiful small tree in the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae), native to northern South America. It is known for its attractive foliage, deliciously sweet and fragrant fruit, and for its medicinal properties.

This little tree grows to 10' high and wide with slender leaves that emerge red or pink and mature to dark green. White flowers grace the tree in the spring, followed by plentiful 2" to 3" round or oval yellow fruits. The pink pulp is a delightful treat eaten out-of-hand or made into jams, jellies, ice cream sorbets, beverages, or added fresh to salads or cereals. The fruit is also an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, and traditional medicines use the leaves to treat diabetes, pain and wound healing, and stomach and intestinal problems.

Narrow Leaf Guava grows in full sun in well-draining soil and does need to be watered frequently until it's established. It is an outstanding addition to a home garden or in a container, but will not tolerate freezing temperatures and will only grow in subtropical and tropical areas.
