The Midnight Pygmy Basslet is a sleek and elegant reef fish known for its deep jet-black body contrasted by a bright yellow tail and fins. Compact, hardy, and full of character, this striking species makes a bold statement in both reef and fish-only marine aquariums.

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around Indonesia and the Philippines, the Midnight Pygmy Basslet inhabits coral reef slopes and lagoons, often sheltering in caves or sponges.

A carnivorous species that thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods. Feed once or twice daily to maintain vibrant coloration and health.

Semi-aggressive but manageable in community settings with robust, similarly sized fish such as wrasses, clownfish, and angelfish. Avoid keeping with very timid or tiny tank mates and other basslets in smaller systems to prevent territorial disputes.
