Learn to knit your first sweater!
FOUR Mondays from 6pm - 8pm on the following dates: Jan 19th, Feb 2nd, March 2nd & 16th
Are you a curious beginner looking to dive into your first sweater, but unsure where to start? Look no further than the Carbeth by Kate Davies, and taught by our expert Theresa! This is the perfect class to teach you the basics of garment construction at an approachable chunky gauge.
The Carbeth is a simple, wearable, but still special feeling sweater that can be made longer if the cropped look isn’t quite your thing. Worked with two strands of DK held together, this sweater knits up quickly - perfect for those chilly Chicago mornings.
What you need to know and be comfortable completing without help from the instructor (or you're willing to learn before this class): How to knit, purl, and knit in the round
What you'll learn in this class: How to get gauge for a knitted garment, seamless bottom-up sweater construction, knit decreases, 2x2 ribbing
Required Materials:
We hope you'll consider supporting us by purchasing your materials at Knit 1!
Yarn: The pattern recommends holding two strands of DK together to create a super bulky weight. You will need 1083 to 1684 yards of DK weight yarn OR you can achieve gauge with Chunky weight yarn held single - 542 to 842 yards.
Notes: If you would prefer a longer, not cropped option for this sweater, the designer has also provided information on how to adjust yarn requirements.
Recommended yarns from the shop: DK weight options - Muse & Method The To-Go Full Skeins, Malabrigo Rios, Rambouillet DK, Kathmandu DK, Cascade Merino DK and Eco Merino DK | Chunky Options - Beatrix, Malabrigo Chunky, Spincycle Plump, Laines du Nord Piuma Cashmere
Needles:
- US 10.5 circular needles in a 24” to 40” length (for knitting the body)
- US 10.5 circular needles in your preferred method for knitting sleeves (small circulars, double pointed needles, or magic loop)
- US 10.5 circular needles in a longer length than your are using for the body (for the yoke)
- US 9 circular needles in a 24” to 40” length for body ribbing
- US 9 circular needles in your preferred method for knitting the sleeve ribbing and neck (small circulars, double pointed needles, or magic loop)
Notions: Stitch markers, waste yarn or barber cord, tapestry needle, scissors
What you'll get:
- Four 2-hour class sessions with expert instruction by Theresa
- The Carbeth pattern (PDF via email & in your Ravelry library)
