Civil War tokens are tangible reminders of American history. These small, cent-sized tokens were privately issued by American tradesmen and others during the war. They were used to advertise businesses and also to grease the wheels of commerce during a nationwide coin shortage. By the summer of 1862, nervous citizens had hoarded all of the nation's gold and silver coins and even its small copper-nickel Flying Eagle and Indian Head one-cent coins. This caused a financial emergency as it became nearly impossible to make change for everyday transactions. Millions of private tokens became substitutes for official U.S. coins, spent and accepted as 1¢ each by the public. Today these tokens are highly collectible.

Novice and experienced collectors alike, as well as history buffs and everyone interested in the American Civil War, will find this volume a fascinating and indispensable reference.

Inside: How to identify and collect Civil War patriotic tokens and store cards. Detailed historical background. Valuations in multiple circulated and Mint State grades. Rarity ratings. More than 2,000 full-color photos. Legendary rarities; discussions of every known issuer; illustrations and descriptions of nearly every known die; and more. Dramatically expanded indexes, including die makers and merchant categories.

Best Guide Ever!
Format: Hardcover
Comic Book Guy's book of pop culture is a hilarious read. Get in the know with Film, sci-fi, gaming, and of course, comics. Read all about a typical day in the life of comic book guy and learn his all time favorite quotes. Take a look at how to run your own comic book shop. Look at CBG places to be such as gaming tournaments, parent's basement, and baseball card convention. Learn the 15 types of moviegoers. A roll-on-the-floor-laughing book for not only for Simpson's fans but comic book fans as well. I highly, highly recommend it.

A Poetic Parable of Silence and Resistance
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky's Deaf Republic is a haunting narrative of political turmoil and collective silence, where a community's deafness becomes a powerful act of defiance. Through lyrical verse, Kaminsky weaves a tale of love, loss, and resistance, capturing the profound consequences of political violence on ordinary lives. This collection is a poignant testament to the resilience of the human spirit amidst oppression and serves as a stark reminder of our moral responsibilities in troubled times.

One of the most original and moving books of poems I've ever read
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky is practically a legend, at this point, and deservedly so. This is his second book of poems, and proves well worth the wait. The individual poems are beautiful and strange; together, they comprise a kind of allegory for our times, and manage to be both somehow light-of-heart, somehow luminous, and also seriously profound. I would recommend this book even to those who don't usually read poetry, because it's beyond poetry, truly.
