Description

The God Who Draws Near - Life with the Father, Son and Holy SpiritThe God Who Draws Near seeks to retrieve the key elements of a biblical spirituality and what they mean for our daily lives. Spirituality is very much a positive buzz word today; but in so many of the ways that it is used, it muddies the waters as to the nature of true spirituality. By going back to the sources, as the sixteenth century Reformers would advise, namely, the Scriptures, this book draws together the main threads of a biblical spirituality

The God Who Draws Near seeks to retrieve the key elements of a biblical spirituality and what they mean for our daily lives. Spirituality is very much a positive buzz word today; but in so many of the ways that it is used, it muddies the waters as to the nature of true spirituality. By going back to the sources, as the sixteenth-century Reformers would advise, namely, the Scriptures, this book draws together the main threads of a biblical spirituality and provides foundations for believers to anchor their lives in truth, love, and a growing relationship with the living God--that very God who has drawn near to us in love and grace through Jesus Christ. May these pages help you to draw near to him.

______________

Michael A.G. Haykin, born in England of Irish and Kurdish parents, serves as professor of church history & biblical spirituality. Haykin has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto (1974), a Master of Religion from Wycliffe College, the University of Toronto (1977), and a Th.D. in Church History from Wycliffe College and the University of Toronto (1982). Haykin and his wife, Alison, have two grown children: Victoria and Nigel.

______________

‘Beginning with exploring a biblical theology of the triune God, the author leads the reader through the trinitarian references in Scripture with particular focus to how the apostle Paul and the New Testament writers make reference to the three Persons of the Trinity. Drawing on the teaching of the Puritan John Owen, Haykin then moves on to discuss the holiness of God and the sinfulness of man in the chapter on “Knowing ourselves and God.” There are also a couple of helpful chapters on a Christ-centred and Cross-centred spirituality, I particularly enjoyed these two chapters as the author highlights the fact that so much that is wrong in the modern church can be attributed to a elevating the person of the Holy Spirit above Christ. Haykin makes the important argument that the Holy Spirit draws our attention and affections to the Person of Christ. There are also chapters on the spirituality of the Word, prayer, Christian meditation, where Haykin does an excellent job of explaining the often misunderstood spiritual discipline of meditation, spiritual friendship as a means of grace and mission as the inevitable fruit of true spirituality. In conclusion, this excellent book is essentially a condensed ‘mini systematic theology’ - weighty and meaty whilst also being very accessible and practical.’ Gareth Dicks, @biblebookstheology

I usually wear 11.5's, but I buy 1/2 size smaller to accommodate for stretch. Leather relaxes.
Size: 11, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
5 STARS: These shoes are awesome. I keep coming back for more. I have major foot problems, have tried all kinds of shoes, orthotics, and inserts... but believe it or not, these shoes work better than any of that stuff. I wear them daily. I buy lots of them, for home, for church, and I'm getting my first pair of J&M boots today, for winters in Indiana... Brrrr

Great price great shoe
Size: 12, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
Excellent shoe. Tried the Sebago penny loafer and the sizing was ridiculous. These J and M are sized perfectly. I’ve had them before and they wear like iron. Very comfortable right out of the box.

Quality shoe but with a slight squeak.
Size: 10 Wide, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
Nice shoes with the classic Penny Loafer design. Fit was better than another brand I tried. Only reason not 5 starts is disappointment due to a slight squeak at times when walking.

Exact item ordered, quick delivery
Size: 9.5, Color: Black Polished Full Grain
I ordered these black Cole Haan penny loafers for casual wear with jeans, khakies, and even business casual with slacks and a jacket. They've always worked perfectly for these uses. The Cole Haan version is the most versatile and still meets my sophisticated look criteria. I wear a 9 1/2 M with almost all other shoes. I have found Cole Haan to run slightly wider and slightly shorter. This fit will work with thin and no socks and a little loose in width. . I'd likely order a 10 N next time. I tend to forget this but it runs consistent with me for Cole Haan. 5 stars for the shoe and service. My bad on the slightly off fit.
