Shaka of the Zulu invented a shorter stabbing spear. This weapon is otherwise known as the iklwa or ixwa, after the sound that was heard as it was withdrawn from the victim's wound.

The Zulu produced at least 20 different types of spear. Perhaps the best known of these is the assegai, which was also used by several other Nguni groups in Southern Africa. It was a throwing spear (javelin) as can be seen from the narrow, leaf-shaped blade and long, slender tapering shaft. The conventional assegai, such as this one, is light and around 1.8m long (as tall as a man). In the hand of a skilled thrower, its range was 60-70m. Several assegai were carried in the left hand, behind the shield, and thrown one by one, prior to charging.

As the Zulu nation expanded, the warrior-leader Shaka (c.1787-1828) ordered all assegai be returned to the smiths to be melted down and re-forged into a new type of stabbing spear, iklwa, which had a shorter shaft and broader, more triangular blade. Under Shaka's successor, Dingaan, the throwing spear was reinstated and ultimately the two types of spear were used together in combat to good effect.

The composition of these weapons, added to the warrior's skill in using them, helped the Zulu become a potent military force; Zulu iron usually contained significant quantities of charcoal from the smelting process, so the finished blades possessed some steel-like qualities in terms of durability, resistance to rust, and the ability to keep a hard edge or point.

Great busy toy!
Color: Squirrel
My dog loves this toy! And I hate squirrels, so I love to see him try to k*ll it. Haha Some of the "pockets" are a little deep and he did manage to rip 1 pocket off during the first use; but it's still keeping him busy!

Velcro for folding?
The toy came folded in a bag very nice. However once I took it out I realized the folds were attached by Velcro. Once unrolled I have not needed to use the Velcro since. Just one piece of the toy that was unnecessary. Otherwise t the dot is very colorful and my dog has not been able to tear it up yet.

Great toy for moderately destructive dogs
Color: Dragon
My dog LOVES this toy. It's not hard to see why: it has just about everything a dog could want in a soft toy. There are ropes that move around, a squeaker, crinkly wings, and different textures of fabric. It's not extremely durable--I've had to sew up one busted seam within a month or so--and you will likely have to re-knot the ropes and pull them back through the holes, but if your dog is only moderately destructive, they will enjoy this. I'd buy another.

Dog Obsessed -- Toy a Mess
Color: Squirrel
The dog was OBSESSED. Truly loved this toy, but he ripped the little pockets really easily. While he still wanted to play with it, it was a little disappointing.

Cute toy
Color: Squirrel
My dog loved it! Looks just like the pics. Durable for most dogs I’m sure. My little dog can destroy anything though lol! Didn’t get to use the treat part cause he destroyed it but looks like a neat concept
