A35.2 Power Amplifier

A35.2 is a powerful balanced input stereo amplifier, utilising their UFPD 2 amplification technology to deliver 200 watts of power per channel in stereo and 800 watts of power in bridged mono mode.

Technology

A35.2 is the most powerful amplifier Primare has designed using their new proprietary UFPD 2 analogue class D amplification technology. In fact, a completely new UFPD 2 power module was designed to provide the power and performance they felt necessary for such a statement stereo amplifier. As a result, a completely new power supply, with custom wound transformers, was designed to deliver the immense electrical power needed for the amplifier module to produce the immense amount of musical power of which it is capable.

With that essential circuitry in place, A35.2 is capable of providing immediate and sustained high power output with very low distortion, instantaneous rise time and absolutely linear amplification across the entire bandwidth resulting in a naturally fast, clean and agile sound over a ultra-wide frequency range and with exceptional headroom.

A35.2 features balanced inputs and 200 watts of output power into 8 ohms, with the ability to be bridged to mono for 800 watts of output into 8 ohms. With this level of truly massive power output, the A35.2 is capable of driving even the most demanding stereo speakers, or an awesomely powerful multi-channel system array.

The look and feel of Scandinavia

Primare believes that every aspect of its products – the way they look, and the satisfying feel of the controls – contributes to the overall experience of living with Primare. As a result, Primare products exude the hallmarks of Scandinavian design – simple, elegant designs, with approachable and easy-to-understand functionality.

An example of this is the standby button discretely placed within the Primare logo on the faceplate of their R15, R35 and A35.2 models – or as they say lagom, not too much not too little, everything in balance, proportion, and harmony.

Modular Design and System Building

Primare feels it is essential to offer modularity whenever possible in order to have just the right features, both now and in the future. Modular design is featured in the I25 and I35 integrated amplifiers, as well as the PRE35 preamplifier, all of which can be updated with DAC and Prisma modules, as well as the CD35 CD player that can have the Prisma module added, either at the time of purchase or at a later date.

As a result, they are able to offer a carefully considered array of models and configurations in order to allow for device selection that best fits any system need. The A35.2 is the obvious partner for the PRE35 in its various configurations, and while not modular itself, it does allow for a number of configuration options to fit system needs, either as a single stereo amplifier, or as a pair for use in bi-amping or in bridged mono mode for 800 watts of pure power per channel.

PRE35 Preamplifier and A35.2 Amplifier

In this video we review the features and functionality of both the A35.2 amplifier and the PRE35 modular preamplifier platform that may make them the perfect addition to your system.

Reviews

“If you want a no holds barred amplifier pairing then look no further than Primare’s finest. Oodles of proprietary power, a raft of features that’ll last well into the future and the ability to drive partnering gear at any price. And if you double up the power amps to mono mode, then things get even better.”

-Audiograde

“Two years ago, I reviewed the Primare A35.2 power amplifier, which earned a Highly Recommended award from The Speaker Shack. This year, I had the opportunity to hear the A35.2 amplifier, used as monoblocks to power the mighty Perlisten Audio S5t speakers. With the simple flick of a switch, the Primare can be configured for mono use, allowing for a considerable amount of power, specifically 500 watts. Using them in this configuration blew me away with their performance, quite literally, as the Perlisten speakers loved the power from the A35.2 amplifiers. This Class D giant earns our Product of the Year Award for Best Power Amplifier 2025.”

-The Speaker Shack

“The Primare A35.2 amplifier has a very good ability to restore details. I even noticed the small sound effects that I had never noticed before, but they were so detailed and obvious on this device. The Primare A35.2 amplifier is a device that allows you to listen to all the music again. The sound is elegant and natural, and the power contained is low-key but hard to ignore. Considering its price, it is really a two-channel amplifier worth buying.”

-My-HIEND

“I have really really enjoyed my time with the Primare PRE35 and A35.2 I have relied on them pretty heavily in evaluating many other products you’ve undoubtedly seen on this channel these past few months because they are just very very good at what they do. I believe the designers at Primare have understood their assignment and for the right listener these products will undoubtedly be just right, a minimalist high-fi dream come true.”

-Andrew Robinsons Reviews

In Summary: As flagship pre/power combinations go these take some beating at their price (and considerably more). Primare’s always had a knack for making hifi seem refreshing simple, because its approach is well thought out, and the PRE35 and A35.2 amps epitomise this. Ladened with sensible features and optional upgrades, ease of use and above all, a sonic quality that is hi-end yet so easy to live with, thanks to effortless dynamics and sheer musicality, this is a system that’s worth a serious demo.

-Audiograde

“Conclusion: The Primare PRE35 Prisma and A35.2 fit together very well but are also certainly worth it separately. Both devices are made with care and look timeless and sleek in our opinion. They also remain relevant and only get new technology if it offers added value. In terms of sound, we have heard few shortcomings. These are products for the long term that reproduce music in a captivating way. The price is certainly fair for what you get. Both recommended!”

-Alpha Audio

“Beautiful and timeless designs that you will enjoy looking at for years. Beautiful and high-quality sound reproduction, which you can enjoy for years to come. Everything is solidly built. If you study the entire delivery program of Primare, you will be amazed. A multichannel amplifier? A home cinema processor? eARC and Dirac DSP options? Dolby Atmos and DTS X? The Swedes also deliver all of that. You don’t have to shop around any further. Highly recommended, and given the high sound quality and finish, I find the Primares very competitively priced.”

-FWD

“Primare’s sophisticated PRE35/A35.2 combination is a class act. Especially in its priciest Prisma guise, it offers plentiful facilities coupled with slick ease-of-use and an enjoyably powerful sound. Furthermore, while optimised as a pair, both pre and power amp remain very competitive in their own right, the PRE35 as a go-to hub for comprehensive digital systems while the A35.2 is an all-round high-value powerhouse.”

-Hifi News

“But the real knockout follows at the end this time and that is the unbelievably competitive price. I don’t know how they did it. But this PRE35 pre and A35.2 stereo power amplifier definitely belongs to the select group of best products of their kind that you can buy in this price range! For those who are not that traditional and have more to spend, there is ultimately also the more expensive PRISMA version with all possible DAC and network functionalities. Wow!”

-FWD

“There is a remarkable attention to detail and an unexpected sweetness. Wasn’t it just tubes that had such grace? Those who regret the old Primare AB series will finally be able to convince themselves of the technical-commercial choices made beyond the Baltic.”

-Audio Review

“Both the PRE35 preamplifier and the A35.2 power amplifier deserve high marks in relation to the quality of their reasonable prices… The power amplifier is fast, detailed, offers high-quality transparency and very good insight into recordings, without the drawbacks or restrictions associated with class D… The additional advantage of both devices is excellent aesthetics and quality of workmanship.”

-AV High End

“UFPD 2 brings subtle but noticeable improvements to its predecessor, the first of which is a new output circuitry developed to keep gain constant throughout the entire audio frequency range. The result is absolutely linear amplification, with a lower noise level and an improved tonal balance that provides absolutely “black” backgrounds for music, making the music more holographic in character; in short, greater naturalness.”

-On Off

“Musical, full of life and with disconcerting ease in the most delicate situations, this set seduced us …”

-Vumetre

“My time spent with the Primare A35.2 amplifier reminded me that there still is no such thing as a perfect, one-size-fits-all amplifier. Some amps are stronger or more engaging than others. Some deliver exciting force, while others deliver subtle, enduring charms. Some, like the Primare A35.2, have high-toned manners, can dance the latest dance, and sometimes even order fine wine. Which reminds me: I never actually drank that Chateau Margaux. But I swear to you, the Primare amplifier looked expensive and sounded ooh la la! with the unopened bottle sitting next to it.”

-Stereophile

“This pre/power tandem conjures up lust and passion, no matter how classically-refined its appearance may be. We were thrilled… We would like to go easy on our proofs of love. But we have really fallen for these two Swedes. As a mix of control centre and powerhouse we don’t know a better tandem in this price category.”

Good looking toy that has held up well
Style: Coyote, Style: Coyote
Very durable toy that our little dog especially loves. It's the perfect size for a small dog and she doesn't destroy toys anyway so it's been great. It does feel very durable though and would take our chewer a little while to get to it as well. I'm not sure it looks like a coyote but the dogs don't seem to mind. It's an attractive toy that looks great and is constructed well so it's not like a slobbery mess when left out. Good value for the money and would make a great gift because it looks higher quality than most toys.

May be ballistic nylon, but the seams are flimsy.
Style: Gator, Style: Gator
I really wanted my pup to like this toy because it looks great and feels solid at first. The design is fun, the material seems tough, and it definitely gives the impression that it can handle some rough play. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case at all. After just about 5 minutes of play, the top seam split open and stuffing started coming out. This wasn’t even extreme chewing, just normal play, and it failed almost immediately. As you can see in the photos, the tear happened right along the top seam, which is exactly where you’d expect a toy to be reinforced. Once it opened up, the toy was essentially done. For something marketed as ballistic nylon, this was really disappointing. It might be fine for very gentle dogs, but if your dog has even moderate chewing habits, this likely won’t last. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it. especially at 19.99 which is the price at time of my review, I feel it does not offer good value for money.

A Surprisingly Tough Favorite for All Four of My Dogs
Style: Armadillo, Style: Armadillo
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Hound 2.0 stuffed armadillo toy, but it has been a total hit in my house. Neither the dogs nor I have managed to find the squeaker yet—so it’s either missing or extremely well hidden—but honestly, the dogs don’t seem to care at all. They love this thing. I have four dogs ranging from a 22 lb Boston Terrier to an 85 lb pitbull, plus two medium Blue Heelers in between, and this toy has been thoroughly tested by every size and play style. I was a little unsure whether they’d like the harder “shell” portion of the armadillo, but they actually love it. It gives the toy a unique texture and makes it feel more durable. Before this, I knew nothing about the Hound 2.0 brand, but I’m a fan now. My little Boston Terrier is notorious for ripping every toy he touches, and this armadillo has stood up to him like a champ. The tag said it was made for outdoor play, wrestling, and chewing—and that’s absolutely true. I haven’t taken it outside yet, but inside it has survived rough play from all four dogs and still looks brand new. I also love that each toy in this line is a different animal with the hard parts in different places. It makes them feel unique instead of just the same toy in different shapes. I’ll definitely be buying more of these. If you have a pup—big, small, or anywhere in between—I’d recommend giving this toy a try. It’s been a winner in my multi‑dog home.

Unique armadillo design
Style: Armadillo
I love the look of this armadillo toy. The flexible rubber shell gives it a spiky texture. It has reinforced nylon seams and printed eyes. The feet allow the toy to stand on its own, daring dogs to come knock it over. With a body length of 12" and standing 5" tall, the toy is of good size for even larger dogs, but it intimidated my 8lb yorkie mix. She found the hard shell and spikes off-putting and not fun. The toy is supposed to squeak, but either mine was broken or buried too deep to be useful. This was disappointing because I think a squeak would have helped my pup engage with the toy because she can't resist a noisy toy. I'd recommend this armadillo for larger dogs than my tiny pup. It seems durable with that rubber shell around the body.
