Tras sobrevivir a duras penas al ataque de Player 2511, Selene decide volver a Detroit con su madre para empuñar las riendas de su vida y olvidar a Neil, sus ojos dorados y sus contradicciones. A pesar de darse cuenta de que lo que siente por él es algo profundo, la chica ha comprendido que Neil no es capaz de dejarse querer por nadie, y menos aún por ella, y que su alma está surcada por cicatrices indelebles que le impiden vivir con normalidad.

Sin embargo, cuando se encuentra con él al cabo de un tiempo, Selene se da cuenta de que no puede prescindir de Neil y decide quedarse a su lado, a pesar de las dificultades. After barely surviving Player 2511's attack, Selene decides to move back to Detroit with her mother, take the reins of her life, and forget about Neil, his golden eyes, and his contradictions. Despite being aware that her feelings for him run deep, the girl understands that Neil cannot let himself be loved by anyone, least of all her, and that his soul is permanently riddled with scars that keep him from living a normal life.

However, when they reunite after a while, Selene realizes she cannot live without him and chooses to remain by his side, regardless of the difficulties. The boy must then fight against himself and his monsters to return her feelings, even in his own way. To top it off, Neil is forced to live on the lookout, as Player 2511 remains lurking, determined to have his revenge. No one is safe, and fear prevails, because nothing less than life is at stake.
