This crazy Indian silver pendant was handmade approximately 100 years ago, featuring a picture of Kali, a fierce Hindu deity, often associated with “Death” and “Time”. This particular pendant is basically down-right scary, with a fierce black patina. It’s going to take a special kind of person to wear this beauty – but we have faith in our customers! As you can see in the two pictures, the pendant looks different in different lighting.  The pendant measures 2.5 inches high by 1.75 inches wide, and weighs 9.1 grams.

The most common source of silver in 19th and early 20th century Indian silver work was old silver coins, which are approximately 80% silver, and that is what this pendant is made out of. This pendant was made in the “Repousse” technique, which is a metalworking technique in which thin sheets of malleable metal are ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief.

 Kali is one of the major Hindu deities and is usually associated with “Death” and “Time.” According to Wikipedia:

Comparatively recent devotional movements largely conceive Kāli as a benevolent mother goddess. Kālī is represented as the consort of Lord Shiva, on whose body she is often seen standing. Shiva lies in the path of Kali, whose foot on Shiva subdues her anger.”
