Our newest version of the iconic Magflap® Is finally here in a new full metal design.

The Magflap® MK3 By Magman®

Stop cold draughts, heat loss, and letterbox noise instantly.

Silent Magnetic Draught Excluder for Vertical (Portrait) Letterboxes

Your vertical letterbox requires a specialized draught excluder designed for portrait orientation apertures. The Magflap MK3 Vertical is a gravity-flap letterbox draught excluder with magnetic sealing technology, specifically engineered for vertical letterboxes measuring 220mm height x 65mm width. Unlike standard gravity flaps that rattle and bang in wind, the Magflap MK3's magnetic seal provides silent operation, eliminating letterbox noise while maintaining a draught-proof seal that's thermally proven to reduce heat loss.

Designed and manufactured in Leicester, UK since 2009, the Magflap MK3 Vertical features all-steel construction with riveted stainless steel hinges for smooth operation. Install internally or externally in under 10 minutes with no specialist tools required. Available in Satin Black spray-coated finish to complement modern door furniture. Optional locking keyset available for enhanced security.

Why Choose Magflap MK3 Vertical for Your Portrait Letterbox?

Silent Magnetic Seal - No More Rattling

Traditional gravity flaps on vertical letterboxes create noise disturbance in windy conditions. The flap swings freely and bangs repeatedly against the door, especially at night. The Magflap MK3 Vertical uses precision-balanced neodymium magnets to hold the flap firmly closed after post delivery. The magnetic seal prevents any movement in wind - customers report complete elimination of letterbox rattling that kept them awake on stormy nights.

Gravity Flap with Magnetic Closure

The Magflap MK3 operates as a gravity flap that opens vertically when post is delivered, then uses magnetic force to seal closed rather than relying on springs or traditional hinges alone. This hybrid design combines the reliability of gravity operation with the silent sealing power of magnetic technology. Post delivery pushes through easily - the magnetic disc self-closes immediately after without banging or noise.

Riveted Stainless Steel Hinges - Built to Last

Cheap plastic letterbox covers use weak hinges that break or seize within months. The Magflap MK3 Vertical features riveted stainless steel hinges that provide smooth, reliable operation for decades. No rust, no seizing, no hinge failure. Our customers report MK2 units (predecessor model) still working perfectly after 15+ years of daily use. Investment in quality engineering means you buy once, not repeatedly.

All-Steel Construction - Never Cracks or Yellows

Plastic letterbox excluders crack in cold weather and yellow over time from UV exposure. The Magflap MK3's all-steel body with spray-coated satin black finish withstands UK outdoor conditions without degradation. Steel construction is 99% recyclable, biodegradable cork gaskets replace plastic seals, and long product life reduces waste compared to annual brush replacements.

Internal or External Fitting - Your Choice

Install the Magflap MK3 internally for a clean exterior appearance and added security, or externally to protect against driving rain and draughts from outside. The low-profile 20mm depth allows installation over most existing letterbox mechanisms. Optional rear gasket add-on provides up to 18mm additional clearance for doors with protruding bolts, nuts, or uneven surfaces.

Thermally Proven Heat Loss Reduction

An unsealed vertical letterbox is a significant source of heat loss in front doors. The Magflap MK3's magnetic seal has been thermally proven to reduce heat loss, helping lower heating costs and improve home comfort. The cork perimeter gasket creates edge-to-edge sealing, while magnetic closure ensures zero-gap performance across the entire letterbox opening.

UK Handmade Quality - Family Business Since 2009

Every Magflap is hand-assembled in Leicester by our small family-run team. We use British steel, high-quality spray coating, and precision engineering. Supporting Magman means supporting UK manufacturing, fair wages, and quality craftsmanship over mass-produced imports. Patent-pending design registered with UK Intellectual Property Office.

## How to Install Magflap MK3 Vertical (10-Minute DIY Guide)

What You'll Need:
- Phillips screwdriver (PZ2/No.2)
- Pencil for marking
- Level (optional but recommended)
- The Magflap MK3 kit includes all fixings

Internal Installation (Most Common):

1. Remove existing letterbox flap (if fitted)
Unscrew internal cover or brush seal if present. Clean internal letterbox surround with cloth to ensure smooth Magflap operation.

2. Position the Magflap MK3 internally
Hold the Magflap against the inside of your door, centered over the vertical letterbox aperture. The magnetic disc should hang freely vertically. Use a level to ensure proper vertical alignment.

3. Mark fixing holes
Use pencil to mark the six screw holes through the Magflap mounting plate. Remove unit and prepare for drilling if needed (most UK doors allow direct screw fixing into uPVC or timber).

4. Secure with screws
Align Magflap over marked holes. Insert provided screws through mounting plate and tighten with screwdriver. DO NOT overtighten - snug fit only to avoid binding the hinge mechanism.

5. Test operation
Push magnetic disc open vertically (as postman would) and release. It should self-close smoothly via gravity and seal completely with magnets. Adjust screw tightness if binding occurs.

External Installation:
Follow same process but mount on exterior door face. Recommend external installation for:
- Maximum draught protection from outside winds
- Doors with complex internal letterbox mechanisms
- Period properties where internal aesthetics matter

Troubleshooting:
- Disc won't close properly: Loosen screws slightly - overtightening can bind the riveted hinge
- Bolt clearance needed: Use optional 18mm rear gasket to raise unit off door surface
- Existing bolts protruding: Rear gasket provides up to 18mm additional clearance

Why Vertical Letterboxes Need the Magflap MK3

Vertical (Portrait) Letterbox Challenges

Vertical letterboxes are common in Victorian, Edwardian, and modern architectural designs. Portrait orientation letterboxes present unique challenges for draught prevention that horizontal letterboxes don't face:

Standard Solutions Work, But Noisily:
Gravity flaps DO work on vertical letterboxes - the flap falls vertically downward to close. However, gravity-dependent closure means the flap swings freely in wind, creating constant rattling and banging noise. On windy nights, a standard gravity flap on a vertical letterbox can wake entire households with repetitive banging.

Brush Excluders Wear Out Fast:
Brush-based seals flatten within 12-18 months from thousands of post deliveries. Bristles compress permanently, creating draught channels around edges. Vertical letterboxes experience the same rapid brush degradation as horizontal ones - replacement needed annually.

Magnetic Seal Solution:
The Magflap MK3 Vertical solves the noise problem by using magnetic force to hold the gravity flap firmly closed. The flap still operates via gravity (opens when post pushes through), but magnets prevent any wind-induced movement or rattling. Silent operation without sacrificing the proven reliability of gravity-based opening.

Specific Aperture Sizing:
Many vertical letterboxes have non-standard dimensions. The Magflap MK3 Vertical is specifically sized for 220mm height x 65mm width apertures - a common vertical letterbox size in UK doors. Check your letterbox aperture dimensions before ordering to ensure fitment.

Who Needs the Magflap MK3 Vertical?

Period Property Owners:
Victorian and Edwardian homes often feature vertical letterboxes as original design elements. Owners of listed buildings or conservation area properties need draught solutions that work with period features rather than requiring modern horizontal letterbox conversions.

Modern Architectural Designs:
Contemporary doors increasingly use vertical letterbox designs for aesthetic reasons. Architects specify portrait orientation letterboxes for clean minimalist facades. The Magflap MK3 Vertical provides modern draught technology for modern door designs.

Noise-Sensitive Households:
Anyone living on exposed sites (coastal areas, hilltops, open countryside) where wind creates constant letterbox rattling. Light sleepers, families with young children, or anyone working night shifts who need daytime sleep - magnetic silence makes the difference.

Energy-Conscious Homeowners:
Vertical letterboxes leak heat just like horizontal ones. Homeowners focused on reducing heating bills and improving thermal efficiency need effective draught prevention regardless of letterbox orientation. The Magflap MK3 Vertical provides thermally proven heat loss reduction.

Quality-Focused Buyers:
Customers tired of replacing cheap plastic excluders annually. Anyone wanting a "buy once" solution with decade-long lifespan. People who value UK manufacturing, sustainable materials (cork gaskets, recyclable steel), and patent-pending innovation over disposable imports.

## Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will this fit my vertical letterbox?
A: The Magflap MK3 Vertical fits letterbox apertures measuring 220mm height x 65mm width (portrait orientation). Measure your letterbox opening before ordering. If your aperture is different, contact us for custom sizing options or see the Magflap MK3 Horizontal for 70mm standard horizontal letterboxes.

Q: How is this different from the Horizontal version?
A: The Vertical MK3 is specifically sized for portrait orientation letterboxes (260mm H x 90mm W external dimensions, 220mm x 65mm aperture). The Horizontal MK3 is for standard horizontal letterboxes (274mm W x 78mm H external, 70mm aperture height). Both use identical magnetic sealing technology.

Q: Does it really stop rattling completely?
A: Yes. Standard gravity flaps rattle because wind moves the unsecured flap. The Magflap MK3's magnetic seal holds the flap firmly closed against wind pressure - no movement means no noise. Customers consistently report 100% elimination of letterbox banging on windy nights.

Q: Can I install it myself?
A: Absolutely. Average installation time is 10 minutes with just a Phillips screwdriver. Six screws fix the unit to your door - no drilling required for most timber or uPVC doors. Full instructions included, video guide available online.

Q: Will it work on external doors in bad weather?
A: Yes. The spray-coated steel construction withstands UK outdoor weather conditions. Install externally for maximum weather protection, or internally for clean appearance. Optional rear gasket provides bolt clearance and weather sealing.

Q: How long does it last?
A: We have MK2 units (predecessor model) still operating perfectly after 15+ years. All-steel construction with riveted hinges and magnetic seal means no wear parts to replace. Cork gaskets can be replaced if needed (sold separately), but most customers never need gasket replacement.

Q: What if my door has protruding bolts?
A: The standard unit provides 20mm depth clearance. For doors with protruding bolts or irregular surfaces, the optional rear gasket (sold separately) adds 18mm additional clearance for total 38mm bolt clearance capability.

Q: Is it secure against letterbox fishing?
A: The magnetic seal alone provides some deterrent as the disc stays closed. For enhanced security, we offer an optional internal locking keyset (sold separately) that prevents letterbox access completely when locked from inside.

Q: Can I fit two units on the same door?
A: Yes. Two Magflaps can be fitted on either side of the door (one internal, one external) for maximum draught prevention and weather sealing. Some customers do this on extremely exposed properties.

Q: What's the return policy?
A: Standard 30-day returns apply if product is unused and in original packaging. Contact us before returning for return authorization. If the product doesn't fit your letterbox dimensions, we can discuss exchange for custom sizing.

Q: Do you ship to Northern Ireland / Scotland / Wales?
A: Yes, we ship throughout the UK. Standard Royal Mail delivery 3 working days. Express options available at checkout.

Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!!
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Queen of Roses (Blood of a Fae #1) by Briar Boleyn Genre General Fiction ( Adult), Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dark Romance “More primordial than the stars. My name was on his lips as he promised unspeakable darkness to any who came between us.” Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!! I’m a big fan of “touch her, and you die” vibes, but I mean, what’s also not to love about a unique Arthurian retelling with gender twists, a treacherous royal court, a dangerous quest, magical Fae & mystical monsters, entwined with a bit of spice! Morgan, Princess of Pendrath and true heir to the throne has spent most of her life dimming her light to feel safe and to make others comfortable. She is treated as an outcast in the court and repressed by her family due to the blood of the Fae within her and forced to join the Temple of the Three as a priestess in training to one day replace Merlin. Her brother, King Arthur, who reminds me of Joffrey from Game of Thrones, later tells her that he has other plans and offers her a choice of the Temple or to marry her off for political gain, unless… that is, she can journey through the great unknown and return with a long-lost fae weapon with enchanted powers known as Excalibur. Her quest begins with a roguish crew that includes the mysterious, arrogant, and heart-tuggingly handsome Captain of the Royal Guard, Kairos Draven, whom she can’t decide if she wants to stab or indulge in pleasure with. Along the way are plenty of surprises, mystical creatures, and betrayal, all while Morgan uncovers more of the truth about herself and who she can trust. This book had intriguing storylines and lovable characters that kept me turning pages and wanting more. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds and comes together in book 2, Court of Claws, which I just started reading!! Read if you’re into- Dark Fantasy/Romance Slow–Burn Question Everything Magic and Action Fae Arthurian Legend Stabby/Broken FFC Morally Gray MMC Forced Proximity Queen of Roses is perfect for Holly Black, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Sarah J. Maas fans. Please check the trigger warnings page in the table of contents before reading this book.

3.5 stars, A little boring to say the least.
Format: Kindle
Wow so I'm not sure where to begin on this one. This was a very different take on the legend of Arthur and Excalibur. This is told from the point of view of Morgan the sister of Arthur. Honestly the first 50% of this book is world building and character building which unfortunately was super boring for me. Morgan to me was a female MC that had a hard time in believing in herself. Sometimes taking too long to understand exactly what was going on around her. Draven was also a different male MC, like I couldn't put my finger on him and what he was all about. It was not until the last 10% of the book did we get some answers on the mystery that is Draven. The other 50% of the book centered around this big journey with everyone having a different motive. We see a spark of magic around this time that had me excited but then we never expanded upon that and what it could mean for the female MC. I feel like I want to read the second book just to see where this goes, but the spice was probably a 2 out of 5. Side characters are ok, Lancelet was fun but I almost felt like I wanted more.

A bewitching retelling of Arthurian legend!
Format: Kindle
In a land where the Fae have nearly become only a legend and those who still posses even a morsel of the blood are few and far between, Morgan finds herself cast aside by most of society due to her rumored half-Fae lineage, including her brother, King Arthur. With the kingdom at the brink of war, Arthur entrusts her with a quest to retrieve a Fae weapon of legendary power: the sword of Perun, Excalibur. Accompanied by men she loathes, Captain Kairos Draven and Ragnar Whitehorn, she embarks on her long and unbeknownst perilous journey, only to find that things she once believed to be myth are in fact very real. With devastating twists, omitted truths, witty banter and fierce action, Queen of Roses leaves you begging to know more about the secrets of Aercanum! Wow, wow, wow! Going into this story, I did not realize that it was going to be a retelling of Arthurian legend, especially not one with a fantastical twist! The unique spin almost gave me The Witcher vibes and I think adding Fae into the mix was quite interesting. I knew the basics of the legend but after reading this book, it has piqued my interest and makes me want to learn more about it. My attention was snatched as soon as I finished the prologue and I knew that I was going to devour this story. I truly enjoyed the gender swaps and even how Arthur was portrayed as villainous. Morgan’s past and even her parts of her present is absolutely heartbreaking, and I felt for her at times. I can only recall one other book that made me hate characters the way I despised Florian and Arthur, leaving me with my blood boiling and feeling disgusted. Even after finishing the book, Draven is still a mystery to me and I cannot figure out how to feel about him. I guess they just means that the author did an excellent job at conveying each character’s persona! The rich world building and imagery made it easy for me to visualize the places that the group visited along their journey. I am truly engulfed in this story and I cannot wait to see wait fate awaits Morgan and how the Fae will be even more incorporated in the next book!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Enchanting
Format: Kindle
"Queen of Roses" by Briar Boleyn is a delightful and refreshing reimagining of the classic tale of King Arthur, with a captivating twist that places the spotlight on Morgan, a character who has often been overshadowed in traditional retellings. Boleyn's creative decision to shift the narrative perspective to Morgan breathes new life into the story, offering readers an intriguing and compelling look at the Arthurian world from an entirely different angle. One of the most commendable aspects of this book is its incorporation of Fae elements, which adds an enchanting layer of magic and mystery to the already familiar Arthurian setting. Boleyn skillfully weaves the world of the Fae into the narrative, creating a captivating backdrop against which the events of the story unfold. This addition not only adds depth to the world-building but also provides ample opportunities for twists and turns that keep readers thoroughly engrossed. However, while the book boasts numerous strengths, it does have one noticeable flaw: the characterization of Morgan. While it is reasonable to create a flawed and complex protagonist, it appears that at times, Morgan's character becomes overly difficult and hard to relate to. Her persistently negative perception of one of the main male characters, who is a potential love interest, despite his efforts to support and assist her, may come across as somewhat irrational and could test the patience of some readers. Striking a balance between a strong, independent character and one who can recognize genuine support and affection could have enhanced the overall reader experience. Nonetheless, the allure of "Queen of Roses" lies in its innovative approach to the Arthurian legend and its skillful blending of fantasy elements into a familiar narrative. Boleyn's evocative prose draws readers into a world where magic, destiny, and fate entwine, leaving us eager to uncover the mysteries that unfold within the pages. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
