String of Nickels – Cascading, Coin-Shaped, Serene

In for a penny, in for a pound… But how about a nickel? The String of Nickels offers long, trailing stems studded with round, succulent leaves that resemble tiny coins. This epiphyte is great for bright bathrooms, hanging displays, and cozy reading nooks.

Plant Personality & Aesthetic Appeal

Also called a Button Orchid, the String of Nickels’ leaves are small, round to slightly heart-shaped, glossy, and succulent-like. The overall effect is a curtain of green coins that drapes beautifully from hanging baskets, wall mounts, or high shelves. Colors range from bright green to olive — with some cultivars showing faint variegation or silvery sheen. Use it in a suspended basket, on a mounted wooden plaque, or trailing from a tall plant stand. Pair with trailing pothos or compact ferns for layered texture, and avoid placing it where its delicate stems might be knocked.

Growth Habit & Size Potential

String of Nickels is a trailing epiphyte that can reach 1 to 3 m of vine length in favorable conditions, though typical indoor ones trail 50 to 150 cm. It grows by producing long, flexible stems with closely spaced leaves. It does not climb aggressively but will cling to mounts if provided. Growth rate is moderate and new shoots appear fastest in warm, humid months and slow in cooler seasons. For hanging baskets, use 12 to 20 cm pots. When mounting on boards, plant several cuttings close together for a fuller cascade.

Light & Location Needs

The Dischidia Nummularia prefers bright, indirect light. Filtered morning sun from the window is ideal. It tolerates medium light but will stretch and thin out in low light. Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch leaves. It adapts well to bright bathrooms and covered outdoor patios in warm climates. Windows can work if the plant is placed a few metres back or shielded with a sheer curtain. Under fluorescent or grow lights, it also performs well for shelves or offices with limited natural light.

Care Level & Maintenance Tips

Water your String of Nickels when the top 2 to 3 cm of the medium is dry (typically every 7 to 14 days depending on temperature and humidity). Use a well-draining mix (orchid bark, perlite, and peat/coco) to mimic its epiphytic nature. It likes moderate to high humidity, around 50–70%, and occasional misting or grouping with other plants helps. Feed monthly with a diluted balanced fertiliser during growth season. Avoid waterlogging and cold drafts. Best keep this plant out of reach from children and pets. The leaves may be toxic, and the plant also poses a hazard when pulled down from hanging locations.

String of Nickels: Calm and Serene Grace

A hanging String of Nickels adds calm and a sense of flowing motion to interiors, which can reduce visual stress and create a more relaxed atmosphere. Its cascading form softens hard lines and makes vertical spaces feel greener without taking floor space, improving perceived airiness. As an epiphyte, it transpires gently, raising local humidity and easing dry air discomfort, especially in heated rooms. Caring for a trailing plant (pruning, misting, and watching new growth) offers rituals that support mental well-being and reduce anxiety.

3 Star Read,
Format: Kindle
This book wasn't bad, but wasn't my cup of tea. It's highly disappointing because the storyline is so original. There is no real conflict or resolution, so the entire thing feels flat. As a lover of omegaverse books, I know there is a ton of variety out there, and ov is really up to the author. But this one is weird. Omegas have multiple scent glands all over their bodies and go into week long heats every month. Alphas have knots in the middle of their shaft instead of the base, and the knot doesn't always swell, no explanation of when or why. It doesn't engage at all when the mouth is in play. I also didn't enjoy the author's writing style. Each paragraph is only 1 or 2 sentences long, and the entire book reads very stacato. The conversations are stiff and unnatural feeling. Everything is very repetitive, both in word choice and in thought. The same thing is repeated 3 or 4 times over a single page, multiple times over. I ended up doing so much skimming. The first 50% of the book is all slow burn, and the last 50% is almost straight mediocre spice. This wouldn't have been all bad if the grammar and spelling errors didn't start at the exact same time. Tongue is repeatedly misspelled in the middle of the spice.

Cozy Omegaverse
Format: Kindle
This is the true definition of Cozy Omegaverse. LA wedding coordinator meets her pack at the location for a couple’s destination wedding. Low angst because they are scent matched high heat with heats and knots. Everything you love about this genre with very little anxiety. Simply a fun experience to read and a book I will comeback to when I’m in a slump. I simply love reading this book

Cute Omegaverse story
Format: Kindle
3.75 stars and 2 for spice. Adorable Omegaverse story about a wedding planner who has to go to a small town to plan a wedding for a movie star. While there, she meets her pack. This covers her struggles of not living there but trying to keep her relationship going with her 3 Alphas. It's a quick read and cute, so I recommend it for people who like light-hearted RH stories.

real good
Format: Kindle
This was a solid read for the ABO universe. The characters are great. The smut scenes were well written. And the town is so cute I want to go there. It didn’t have much character development it just felt like I was getting to the characters as they were getting to know each other.

So sweet
Format: Kindle
It’s so unexpectedly sweet that it sneaks up on you. Each character is so unique and charming. I love the openness and honesty among their pack. It really blows me away how wonderful this omegaverse trope plays out. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
